Hello everybody, with less than a year to go before we (the ILWU) negotiate a new contract, we have put together a video documenting what happened during our 2002 contract dispute. Much of the information in our video is information the corporate media never disseminated to the public.
Remember the two sticking points of our last contract was over benefits and job jurisdiction with respect to a prior contract we agreed to which the employers proposed themselves.
Some points this video will show is: who we the ILWU are, that there were no production slow downs during our last contract dispute; on the contrary we were setting production records during that time. This video will also show how we worked passenger ships (for free) so as not to impact vacationing passengers and how we had offered to work all military cargo's (for free) so as not to impact the military shipments. But the employers refused to let us. The video leaves out the same offer from us to work all spoilage type cargo's so these type cargo's would not rot on the ships. And of course the employers refused our offers on that too.
Lots of other good information in this video. Hope you all enjoy it..
