Conservatives can't do comedy. So they do political commentary
There are few if any successful comedians that operate from a conservative point of view for the simple reason that comedy doesn't work from a conservative point of view. Conservatives support the current establishments of power. Comedy expressed from this point of view comes off as cruel and uncaring. Dismissive of people in favor of the establishment. It cannot help but seem petty.

So instead of comedy the right has political commentators. They express caustic views that people on the right agree with but that set off people on the left. It causes the left to react viscerally and emotionally. This pulls them off their moral highground and reduces them to an emotional level.

In contras the left has fewer commentators but far more comedians. Humor is a very effective means of delivering political commentary. "A walk down the path of history is crunchy with the crispy corpses of those who pooh-poohed or ignored the clown car of ridicule when it pulled-up to the curb. Who would have thought such a tiny car could contain so many infectious and revolutionary guffaws? Satires, parodies, blue humor, pants to the ground ass-wavings, tea-dumping, Modest Proposal submiting, 7 dirty word spewing, flag burning, frankly impolite, just plain rude and improper expressions of ridicule have either ignited reform, fanned the flames or kicked the corpse to make sure it was dead." - Stephen Jones

So when you see people like Ann Coulter or Michele Malkin realize that they are simply the rights attempt to even this particular fight. We have humor, irony, and satire. All they have are commentators. To their credit they are making them work very well. But that does not mean we cannot take that as well. And we have our comedians as well.

And the thing is we need to capitalize on this advantage we have. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert can't carry the load for us all.

Maybe if protests shifted from being angry to ridiculing the incompetency of this administration it would get the idea spread further. People would much rather laugh than deal with someone who is spitting mad. After all it was laughter that undid the Emperor and his new clothes.

3. I think Olbermann is a good example of how we have the advantage.
The RRR didn't give a damn about him until his ratings shot up. Now people take him seriously--and are being exposed to the likes of Rachel Maddow, Naomi Wolf, John Dean and Jonathon Alter.

Another plus we have is sheer quality regarding the media. The fact is, colbert, TDS, and Olbermann are ENTERTAINING without histrionics. I'm willing to pay attention to Olbermann, TDS, and Colbert--and I get more news from them (including the strictly comedy programs) than I would get in a week's worth of Tweety.

4. Exactly
Our humor can come from insight. The rights jokes require personal failings such as Bill Clinton's infidelities to make any headway. The shear volume of Clinton Penis jokes should be evidence enough of how jealous and desperate the right is to tap into the humor angle.
