If You and your family Was Faced With Starvation
due to your country turning into a fascist state because of "severe inflation",

what would you do?

Probably what most have done in the past when faced with fascism and dictatorships.

Go along to get along while you have to, to keep your family alive.

What a world we live in now.

What was once the worlds greatest democracy and "superpower" is now just a fascist state waiting for the moment to hurt it's own people.

What would you do if faced with starvation?

It just may happen soon in this country. We are rapidly turning into a third world country. Importing food, etc...

fought and fought and fought and survived...but I fought back!

But? I became more jaded, cynical, callous and indifferent.

On Edit: A song that kept me going..... ;)

3. Interesting that you posted this...
Just the other night as I was dozing off, I had this thought that when things got really bad, what would most likely happen is that a good part of my family would move into my house. We would have to combine our assets, and work together to survive. I, being the youngest, with the most secure employment, would continue to work, while the rest of my small family would do other things to secure our survival...tending the new garden in the yard, etc.
It was a very bizarre pre-snooze thought sequence.

7. It was a weird little premonition kind of thingy....
We were getting along, but it wasn't the best of situations. I have 4 large dogs and several other animals, and that was a part of the drama that was in the scene.
The main thing was, however, the severe depression of the resources and the normality of what we are use to, sort of like a 21st century dark age.
Very strange thoughts....and it seems as though they were very "dark". However, in the course of my mental meanderings, there was a sense of renewal, also...like a cleansing.
It's hard to explain... It was after all, only a semi-dream sort of thing, but what I did get from it is that, yes...people, in general, would go back to a very close communal society.

12. How big is that garden?
Everybody wants to have their own little garden, but the reality is that vegetables, fruits, and the mythical beef tree don't grow very fast. There is no Polaroid solution to speed up the process either...

14. I've thought of this before also.
At this time, I have the largest house and the largest garden. I could see our place being the place of refuge in a crisis. Actually, we had a dry run with Katrina. We were the only one left standing and there was constant activity here for at least a year. We didn't lock the doors because we didn't know who might come during the night.

So far, since Katrina two of the kids have moved back (one with a family). We are surviving on our combined incomes. The family is now in the garage (converted to apartment). I'm trying to instill the importance of tending the garden. We also have a fish pond. I'm trying to prepare them for hard times that may come.

And yes, the family does seem closer.

6. British Columbia
I'd leave and go somewhere I could support my family. I like to think I would have had the cojones to leave Nazi German in 1934, had I had the poor fortune to be born there in 1914 or so.

10. If people are literally starving to death in such numbers, the country will resemble France 1789.
People who are combined with pure desperation as well as resentment at the wealth of the owners are liable to lash out in violence.

11. A lot of food I buy says "Made in the USA" or "Made in USA" on it.
Still, sometimes those Guatemalan sugar snap peas are too much to resist... :9

I wonder why we can't grow our own?

Some foods are not as transportable as others, but peas? Color me naive...

And if we were a fascist state, would you be here to call it one?

13. Silly goose. You are NOT hungry just food insecure
Some Americans Lack Food, but USDA Won't Call Them Hungry

Nov 2006

The U.S. government has vowed that Americans will never be hungry again. But they may experience "very low food security."

Every year, the Agriculture Department issues a report that measures Americans' access to food, and it has consistently used the word "hunger" to describe those who can least afford to put food on the table. But not this year.

Mark Nord, the lead author of the report, said "hungry" is "not a scientifically accurate term for the specific phenomenon being measured in the food security survey." Nord, a USDA sociologist, said, "We don't have a measure of that condition."

The USDA said that 12 percent of Americans -- 35 million people -- could not put food on the table at least part of last year. Eleven million of them reported going hungry at times. Beginning this year, the USDA has determined "very low food security" to be a more scientifically palatable description for that group.

We don't know that some of us are starving to death because it is no longer defined.
