Do you start as a Private and work your way up with the usual military designation? If not, how do they handle rank and assign leadership positions?

1. I can't answer your question, but based on what we are witnessing...
It would seem to me they are just a bunch of rag tag misfits with weapons!

2. It seems most paramilitary organizations do have a chain of
command. They do like to imitate the real military to give them a comfort zone that they are familiar with. Many of the guys are former military anyway, if not our military, the military of other countries.

5. Well, look at old movies about Pancho Villa. They had all

those things, so did Castro, when he was a revolutionary. There is a magazine out there called, "Soldier of Fortune". Mostly, it's a gun magazine, but not for guys who are hunters, but have militia type jobs, like being a policeman, who actually also do have Sgts., Lts., Capts., etc.. Tucked away between the pages are analysis's of all the best wars going on globally and ads about hiring yourself out as a mercenary.

Anyway more recently in the rogue militia arena is the movie "Blood Diamond" where kids between eleven and fifteen are turned into killers but they also have a military structure with all the proper titles. I haven't researched Blackwater, but I'll betcha they have all those levels of command in place. I think a lot of the atrocities we are seeing from the contractors is because an "officer" above them commands it.

6. They sure do.
And the really scary part is that both chains of command end with a single fanatical Christian fundamentalist at the top. Kinda scary, no?
