your "in crowd" but worked to get Andy's message out there here in NC. I don't think I count..but wanted to show my support because I wasn't in on the DU WARS and the FREEPER stuff against Andy. But, I did PM with him a couple of times...and always supported him.

Just so you know...lots of DU'ers weren't part of the "in crowd" but supported Andy through it all ...in our way, by continuing his legacy.

Just saying...we weren't as "personally involved" as you and others...but didn't mean we weren't with him all the way. I hope you will understand this...since I'm not part of your "in crowd," but loved and supported him, nevertheless with everything we could do!

There was an "outraged" crowd, who did what they could do defend Andy, and that includes everyone who cared for him. Friends of Andy are you and me and everyone here who cared about him and hated the crimes that were done to him. :hi:

It's just that the "wars" go on. When in fact it's what Andy and Bev (before she turned to the Dark Side) did for Voting Reform and to EXPOSE what happened to Gore in "Selection 2000" (that will live in Infamy in our Memory) is for those of us who were here on DU a HIGH POINT in our Political Awakening to what was to Come with the Busholini's!

We, who watched it, and participated in many ways will always remember ANDY...just as we remember Keph...and those who are no longer with us who were inspirations...

I sometimes feel there's an "in crowd" mentality that forgets the rest of us...and sometimes goes beyond bounds to sometimes not REMEMBER those who were with you in the research and the support.

That's all I'm saying...

I'm an activist on other fronts, but I leave that one to you experts. I'm involved here only because of my friendship with Andy, who I still miss!

and we don't forget those who have gone before...and we don't become some "exclusive keeper of the torch" even though we have multiple ways of activism. We take Andy's example and not try to trash our fellows who fight on "other fronts."

even though usually it sometimes takes me hours to figure out what people are talking about. But, that's all right. Andy did set a good example, didn't he, on top of everything else he did. :)

I barely even knew him when this all started. If it looked that way, KoK01, maybe it was because the topic was creating so much turbulence at DU that some of us took it off the site so we could still vent without starting flame wars here. Andy loved DU.

Koko, If you ever called him or Pm or emailed him, and you cared about the voting situation, you were part of Andy's in crowd. He is one of only a handful of folks I've known in my 55 years who
made so many people feel that they were his only good and true friend. Don't deny yourself the good memories you may have of Andy by thinking that he was upset with you. If he had managed to live, he'd be buddies with you now.

He walled himself off at the very end of his life - he quit answering his cell phone so even some close to him couldn't get through.

He knew by doing that he might be missing out on people like you, KoKo. But he was so ravaged by his disease, and so eaten up by the hatred of the freepers, that he chose not getting one bad call from freeper land over any of the kinder calls from other people. He knew the only hope that he had in beating the cancer was to NOT get those upsetting calls. The freepers were telling him every chance they could that they'd have him in jail for fraud, and that he'd lose any property he owned and that they would make his life miserable.

What a rotten group of people. Since Andy was not psychic, he didn't know in February 2005 as he applied for state medicaid that he'd be getting $ 50,000 from people at DU. ANd freeperland let Andy know that he MUST have known that he'd be getting money from his celebrity hood. And that he must have known it would be tens of thousands of dollars. Therefore, according to freeperland, Andy's statements to Washington state agencies were fraudulent.

How could he have known that the May contributions would happen?? It was because of Beth F. for her undertaking the splendidly done work of organizing the DU community and due to everyone who had a chuck of spare change that he got the money. THERE was no way in the world that he knew that that would happen until the day it actually did.

As charmed a guy as he was, he didn't know that in May, Gore Vidal would be interviewing him. or that Peter Angelos of the Baltimore Orioles would tell others to let Andy know that he was one of Peter's priorities in terms of monetary contributions.

And as charmed a guy as he was, he wasn't able to beat the cancer. The many who sent him money, or gave him a place to stay when he needed to be near Hopkins for treatment, those who phoned, sent flowers, called, etc, all of this cheered Andy and helped him rally. Today, our movement of taking action against the electronic voting machines continues. But we are all a little more lost, and a little more out of sorts than we were when there was still the possibility that the phone ringing late at night just might be Mr Stephenson, calling to say, "Hey Dahling," in that soft spoken voice of his.
