After 106 years, House & Garden magazine closes

Condé Nast is again shutting down 106-year-old shelter monthly House & Garden, and longtime editor Dominique Browning is leaving the company, Condé Nast confirmed today.

The publisher closed the shelter monthly after acquiring Architectural Digest from Knapp Communications in 1993. But in 1995 the company relaunched it.

1. Well well. who needs a magazine when you can watch

the DIY channels and the BBC make-over shows on TLC..? Who wouldn't want their next door neighbor to redecorate their bedroom? Doesn't everyone want sod on their walls, straw mats on the floor and a gigantic Tiki next to their bed?

Seriously though, the prices of some of the things in those glossy mags, make most of that stuff out of reach for many who bought the magazines, and the ones who could afford them probably have their own decorators, so they don;t even NEED the magazines to guide them :)
