Sorry, but demonstrating torture just ain't the real thing.
A soldier undergoing a water boarding demonstration in training knows that he'll be going home at the end of the day. Same for a reporter attempting to educate his audience. Torture is more than pain. Torture is also being subject to the whims of your captors. You have no recousre, no protection. Laws against torture protect all of us from out of control officials. If we allow any of these methods, we are putting power over us all in the hands of the worst of us.
The torture from waterboarding is psychological in nature. You don't get the real terror from watching it. To watch it, it just looks like someone pouring water on someone's head. It really doesn't convey the complete shock the mind goes into due to the belief that it is drowning.
I give the participants (particularly the victims) kudos for trying. But its not going to break through.
