MANILA, Philippines -- Killing the impeachment complaint in the House of Representatives is widely seen as the key to keeping in place the fragile alliance between President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Speaker Jose de Venecia.

Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri said House endorsement of the impeachment complaint would “put a strain” on the truce struck between Ms Arroyo and De Venecia during Saturday’s meeting in Malacañang that was attended by former President Fidel Ramos.
