"Torture".....I really need HELP to go on living in this country
please friends help me to understand, why torture is discussed in this "free country - role model for democracy in the world:!!!

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes and I am so disappointed about this country I choose to live in 11 years ago.

We are Germans and are in our 50th----that means we are raised by our parents who had to go through the Hitler regime in their youth.

Believe me we are raised to be aware, that THAT NEVER EVER HAPPENS AGAIN IN GERMANY.

Our nerves are blank since Bush and his regime is ruling because we are realizing, that Americans are not aware, what DANGEROUS ROAD they are walking.

One word from an German Politician about torture yes or no,--------------THAT WILL BE HIS LAST DAY IN POLITICS IN GERMANY

I think that history-education in this country is on the level 0

Most of the Americans don't fear, that the greatest experiment in the world ( United States of America) is close to be a huge failure.

I have my "Green Card" since a while, I love this country, but right now I would never apply for citizenship, because the Americans voted for Bush a second time (I know, they didn't do it the first time!!)

They have to prove to me, that they don't vote another Republican into office!

BE AWARE, very soon 3 SUPREME COURT JUDGES RETIRE AND NEED TO BE REPLACED

That tells us, it has to be a Democrat to be in office!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I DEARLY LOVE THIS COUNTRY< I WANT T STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Stay...
...here. This is a good, decent country with mostly good, decent people and government leaders. What is happening now is very sad...but just watch...you are about to see democracy in action. The people will stand up and make it clear what we do and do not stand for as a country...and we DO NOT stand for torture.

2. the Democrats in the next few days will nominate
an attorney general who will never make a ruling on torture.

god only knows how many millions of people died in the middle of the last century to defend the rights of free people against those who wish to destroy that basic right. we have two democratic senators who desecrate the graves of those who died so we would remember never to do this again.

3. We Didn't Vote For Him in 2004 Either. We Got Robbed Again

I think most of us fear exactly that.

Congress is obviously terrified of Bush**. They give him everything he asks for, because if they don't he'll just take it by fiat anyway. We are just one "emergency" away from martial law. All the executive orders are in place.

Keep your EU citizenship, you may find it very useful soon.

5. Thank you for the wonderful post, elf.
It looks like the same people that did those horrible things in Germany have returned to give it another try.

We will hopefully beat them back again. And hopefully we won't concentrate so much on the soldiers this time.

10. Oui
:D

Hey, there's no such thing as "cheating." I have to use an English dictionary almost as much as foreign language ones. Though, if you use online translators like Babelfish, you will sound really really weird to the other person. I guess you could call that cheating, but I see it more as a beginner reaching out and really trying. For instance, I do use an online translator for Finnish, which I do not know at all, and often use it for Scandinavian languages (I learned some Norwegian when I lived in Norway)... Jeg snakke lite Norsk.

I speak five languages pretty well (including reading, writing, and playing music ;) ), and understand a few Latin-based relatives, but I am no professional linguist. I just love languages and international travel. I've lived on 4 continents, and attended three universities abroad, and most of my SOs in my life have been non-native-English speakers - that helps a lot! :D

Ha det bra! :hi: (ciao) :D

12. Run for you life
Well, you probably will be fine. Things won't be really bad for quite a few years at least. Though I must say with oil today at 97 dollars a barrel, and the American dollar worth nothing-maybe it will come sooner. Do not look to our current political process to save us. Nothing will change with Hillary Clinton as president. You are correct about Americans not understanding anything.

Bush didn't come out of nothing-he came out of eight years of Clinton. Eight years of Mark Penn-look that asshole up-Hillary's chief campaigner-the one we have to blame for the downfall of the Democratic party. The Democratic party is now the Republican party of forty years ago and the Republicans are the fascist party. Some or should I say many of the Democrats are fascist enablers. They keep thinking they can retroactively stop evil. NEXT up-we restore habeas corpus. No, you fucking idiots it's gone-you let it go. On further thought-get the hell out-I wouldn't stay in love with a country that does not guarantee you an open trial. I doubt as an American you even have those rights anymore-I'm certain as a "foreigner" you most certainly don't.
