White House Tells Musharraf: Never ‘Restrict Constitutional Freedoms’ To Fight Terrorism
During today’s White House press briefing, spokeswoman Dana Perino condemned Gen. Pervez Musharraf’s declaration of “emergency rule” in Pakistan. She said that the administration is “deeply disappointed” by the measure, which suspends the country’s constitution, and believes it is never “reasonable” to “restrict constitutional freedoms in the name of fighting terrorism”:

Q: Is it ever reasonable to restrict constitutional freedoms in the name of fighting terrorism?

MS. PERINO: In our opinion, no.

Watch it:

The Bush administration never suspended the U.S. Constitution; instead, it interpreted the document so broadly as to provide all the powers they desired. A look at some of the ways the White House has overstepped its constitutional powers in the name of national security:

3. How can you even watch her?
The sound of her voice and her condescending manner is so vile, I can't even tune in. I hope they replace her SOON so she isn't there when something crucial happens and we need the information. Who will volunteer to listen?

Anyone heard how Tony Snow is doing? I didn't care for him, either, but he was a breath of fresh air compared to Dana.

4. In a fascist shift (and I suppose ours is no different)
lies mix with truth to confuse the populace and to discourage those fighting the shift as they no longer know what to believe.

6. Oh jeez, well then Musharraf is going to just roll over
at Bush's "deep disappointment". How effective! What a tremendously powerful statement of condemnation! I am shocked, simply shocked! that Musharraf hasn't burst into tears of chagrin yet.

7. Hello, pot. Meet kettle
Bush is the last who can afford to tell Musharraf to quit jailing dissenters in the name of battling terrorism. Thanks to Darth Cheney, he's doing the same crap himself!

STP to Bush: if you want Musharraf to quit "restricting constitutional freedoms" to fight terrorism, set the example--do it yourself! Call off your attack dogs here in the USa and put them back in the kennels where they belong!

8. I don't know how Dana can say these things without making her brain explode.
I guess she's not really listening to herself.
