Centennial skating rink will be filled with water trucked in from Kentucky

http://www.atlantawatershortage.com/

Ice Guys, the company that will be installing the ice skating rink at Centennial Olympic Park this year, announced that they’ll be trucking in the water needed for the rink.

They weren’t specifically told anything about a ban on water for the use of the rink, but officials “felt it would be better if the water came from a place where it isn’t in such short supply.”

The city of Roswell is set to vote on November 19 to spend about $125,000 to look for potential well locations. They are wanting a “drought-proof” alternative in place and hope to be able to pull in between 3-6 million gallons/day from the wells.

will that be wasted money? is there such a thing as a "drought-proof" alternative?

2. I have a novel idea...
How about just not having an ice-skating rink? Why do you need one when water is in such short supply. The city could use the bully-pulpit approach and lead by example - don't use water you don't need! Period!

3. Thanks for keeping us posted on this. Don't hear much except on the
Weather Channel about this. We are not in great shape here in NC, either. Seems odd there's so little attention in the Cables about this. Maybe the US Chamber of Congress is keeping it out of view...Business and Travel interests need to keep the "bad stuff" out of view. Or, maybe I'm paranoid.

That way they will be able to continue to build like there is no tommorrow, build golf courses, and have absolutely no water restrictions.

Oh but the catch is in 2010 you will be asked if you want to water you lawn or drink treated effluent.

6. So with oil at over $96 / barrel, they're trucking in water from 500 miles away?

7. Nevermind that Kentucky is in a drought as well
Some areas of the state have a serious water shortage of their own.
