1. well, not exactly on the same level as all those PC viruses...in fact, not a virus at all:
<snip>
Of course this Trojan relies on social engineering to spread, and it does not mark a breakdown in Mac OS security or anything like that.

These sorts of programs have been around on Unix systems for years, and there were Mac Trojans back in 2004, all relying on people's willingness to click on boxes without thinking when they believe they are being offered something they want.

4. Always been a threat
Macs have fine security, but then so do Windows-based systems. Which is better (more secure) isn't really the big question. Any open system (open in the sense of 3rd party applications/data compatibility) is vulnerable to mal-ware. The huge difference in Mac vs. PC vulnerability is the huge (approx. 9:1) advantage Windows has over Mac OS X in installations. Virus, trojan, and other mal ware developers target numbers (also the reason fewer games and other apps are available for the Mac).
If everyone bought a Mac to avoid mal ware, well, a PC would quickly become the safer platform simply because it wouldn't be attacked relentlessly.
