Obama Rejects Bill Clinton's Criticism
Nov 6, 2007 10:59 AM (15 mins ago) By NEDRA PICKLER, AP

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Barack Obama said Tuesday that former President Clinton was making a leap to compare treatment of his wife in the presidential race to the "swift boat" criticism of John Kerry in 2004.

The former president encouraged an audience in Nevada Monday not to let "trivial matters" take away the election from the Democrats as they have in the past. He cited the television ads during the 2004 presidential campaign that questioned Kerry's patriotism and campaign commercials in 2002 suggesting that Sen. Max Cleland, D-Ga. was soft on terrorism.

Both Kerry and Cleland were honored for their service in Vietnam, during which Cleland lost three limbs. Both were defeated after the ads aired.

"I was pretty stunned by that statement," Obama said with a chuckle when asked about the former president's comment in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

1. Clintons didn't back up Cleland in 2002 or Kerry in 2004 against those lies
In fact, Bill had plenty of opportunities to do so, including during his June2004 book tour - instead he firmly expressed his support for Bush on his decisions on terrorism and Iraq war.

4. Well, you couldn't expect them to back Kerry
If he had won, it would have messed up Hillary's plans for 2008. Don't for minute think there's any altruism in either Clinton.

2. OH OH so Willey's book isn't swiftboating
and the shit about the driver's license isn't swift boating. What in the S.O.B. hell does a governors decision about driver's license have to do with Hillary Clinton. Can she single handedly run the State, the country and her senate seat. Why in the hell do we need a president if Hillary Clinton is supposed to do it all.

5. The driver's license question, I agree was a low blow
but, that is what is supposed to happen, I guess. In every debate I've ever seen, in comes a question that is supposed to knock the candidate off their feet, so "we" can see how they handle it.

As for Willey, there is nothing that can be done about that. This kind of thing is what we, who are not actively supporting Clinton, have feared. Their past "fight with the repubs" will come back to haunt us, and lose the election. It is not the Clintons' fault, and it's a shame that some people will stoop so low as to do these type of things. But this is the reality.

3. such BS
It is not swift-boating to ask tough questions. HRC should just stay off the campaign trail if she can't handle answering questions.
