Why I am foolishly optimistic about today
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 06:14 PM by LSK
John Conyers knew he did not have the votes to move HR 333 out of committee and that is why he did not act on it all this time. That has always been my belief on why it sits. Now if I believe that, when a majority of the Congress votes it to Conyers' committee, do you think that might change his mind? I hope it does.

This is the same John Conyers who held those famous Downing Street Memo hearings in the basement with John Wilson and Cindy Sheehan, this is the same John Conyers who had the microphones turned off by James Sensonbrennor during the Patriot Act hearings, this is the same John Conyers who documented http://www.truthout.org/docs_05/010605Y.shtml">"What went wrong in Ohio" and this is the same John Conyers who wrote a book called http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/5769">"Constitution in Crisis".

So given John Conyers track record, tell me why you think he did nothing to move on HR333? The only valid reason that I can think of is that he knew he did not have the votes.

Now given what happened today, I believe he might have changed his mind.

Now if you disagree with me, tell me why, given http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_biography.htm">Conyers history, that he does not act on HR333.

1. all those votes he got from Republicans were not to debate impeaching Cheney
but to make the Dems look foolish. They would not be there TO IMPEACH when the actual vote arrives.

and actually, the lockstep with which Republican leadership[ was able to turn its members in this way is a demonstration of how loyally the Pukkkes would defend their obnoxious leader. To the death.

how sick they are too, the Dems will have to sharpen their senses to fight back and not to be on a guilt trip when the media and these scummy repigs swiftboats them. Dennis we support you, they will do everything in their power to turn this all political it's for Kucinich campaign and all that crap but we know better huh? it's for us and the Constitution, and the Dems better get off the kick that they have work to do, what work everything they put through gets vetos anyway, so let this resolution go forward.

4. I'm not sure what you mean by having the votes to move out of committee
Do you mean the committee itself wouldn't recommend the bill, or that it would be defeated in the house?

Hell he hasn't even held one hearing on it. The articles cover a lot of ground and the charges should be validated via hearings before the bill is moved out of committee. As John would say, I find his inaction on so serious a charge, astonishing! Especially since his publication of "Constitution in Crisis" clearly shows at least a passing interest in the subject matter.

I can't figure how Pelosi has such a good choker chain on Conyers. What are they afraid of?

The one thing clear to me is that until John can slip that collar, the bill will languish without even the courtesy of a hearing! That is the sort of treatment dished out by his republic predecessors.
