I've never seen a Walmart with a bike rack.
Have you?

5. Well, the racks would be outside the store
Let's be honest. Walmart's whole business plan is to put their stores in locations that are very inaccessible to bikes. They're generally located on multi-lane roads with lots of automotive traffic that travels really fast.

8. the one in my town is in a a strip mall so the only way you see a bike rack
is to actually drive through their gigantic parking lot, there are no stores in that mall that i shop in.

31. I had to walk through that parking lot once,
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 01:02 PM by LeftyMom
while my car was across the street at the Saturn dealer getting new tether anchors put in.

I was fairly sure some dumbass going 35 in a crowded parking lot was going to run me over in their Ford Enormous or Nissan Spanish Armada, and not even notice.

edit: And I used to work at Arden Mall and ride my bike in, so it takes a hell of a parking lot to scare me.

9. They're just trying to be trendy without actually doing anything
I am so tempted to go by my local Walmart and ask the manager where employees who bike to work park their bikes.

Naturally, I think it would be great if everyone who reads this post did that.

26. Or, just ask them about their green policy!
Since they have all these go-green commercials. For example, are they sure to locate their stores at bus stops?

10. Gore Praises Wal-Mart On Environment
It seems that Gore likes Wal-Mart

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13840755

Former Vice President Al Gore on Wednesday praised Wal-Mart for a newfound focus on environmental sustainability, saying the retailer showed there is no conflict between the environment and the economy.

“I believe that this kind of commitment is so important that the rest of the world is likely to be listening and learning,” Gore told an auditorium of more than 800 Wal-Mart employees, suppliers and outside experts who are advising the company.

iPod maker admits breaking Chinese labor laws; says Apple approved sweatshop labor

"Apple Computer is getting into a deep PR mess over the antics of one of its Chinese partners," Nick Farrell reports for The Inquirer.

"After denying that it was running a sweatshop that would be familiar to Charles Dickens, Apple's Ipod manufacturer, Foxconn has finally admitted that it broken Chinese labour laws," Farrell reports.

It's a Wal-Mart thread. There are other evil villains under the sun than Apple NO!-MAD. Try and expand your rather limited fake outrage to stay on topic.

None of us here are going to destroy Wal-Mart, and you are NEVER going to destroy Apple Don Quixotie. Give it a rest.:eyes:

14. If They Biked In Our Local Walmart's Neighborhood
At the junction of I-97, MD Bus 3 (Crain Highway) and Veteran's Highway (formerly MD 3 North), we'd see quite a few more people killed.

It's dangerous enough just to drive a proper four-wheel road vehicle nearby-much less-shop, park, work, walk or bike there.

17. This whole NBC Green Week thing is a sham-
they're just doing it because it's very stylish right now. In 3 or 4 years people are going to look back on this time period and laugh their faces off. Remember when it was stylish in 1989-1991? If people actually kept up with the cause way back then, we wouldn't be as much into the mess we're in now. Instead it just got old and the same people who were going green bought SUV's and lots of water bottles by the late 90's.

I just lost my appetite for breakfast-is that the result of someone "laughing their face off?"

Don't forget how "stylish" it was during the gas/energy crisis of the 70s, either. 70s!!! And emission controls or not, how many more cars do we now have on the road, guzzling away? Here we are, revisiting the same old same-o, decade after decade, clock ticking.

is related to my screen name. Look up "arcturian" on http://www.memory-alpha.org

I fear that global warming is too far gone and that it might be smarter to focus on adaptation and correction at this time instead of prevention. What those ideas and solutions are, I have no idea.

I don't recall that the Walmart (which I lived behind) had a bike rack, but it did have hitching posts for the Amish.

I'm pretty sure they didn't sell buggies.

24. If you ride a Wal-Mart bike made in China you might one day hear
your very own family Doctor tell you the very same thing your Drill Sergeant once told you..."You'd Better Get The Lead Outta' Your Ass, Young Man!"

Wal-Mart is learning to lie and fake folks out almost as well as Bush does. How the hell will you haul your lead coated big ticket items home, on your lead coated bike?

32. "Green" is going to become the biggest marketing gimmick of the next ten years.
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 01:06 PM by GumboYaYa
I saw an article on 10 things you can buy to be green. That is so ass backwards. We are in the trouble we are in now because of our over consumption and an addiction to absolute convenience. The thing to do to be green is to stop buying things. Even some of the so-called leaders of the green movement don't get that.

I knew Al Gore was full of shit when he showed up for an awards banquent we were both attending in a stretch Hummer Limo. I don't care how many carbon credits you buy, anyone who thinks it is okay to ride around in a Hummer Limo doesn't understand what it takes to solve the problems we have created and doesn't get to claim to be a green leader in my book.

This is just one example among a multitude that tells me that even those who absolutely see the danger we are facing and have promoted it, still are not willing to give up their addiction to convenience.
