4. Not dead --
STATEMENT FROM HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE SPOKESMAN
by Vanessa Silvert... on November 6, 2007 - 8:11pm.

We called John Conyers's office and they wrote us back just a few minutes later:

"The Committee has a very busy agenda - over the next two weeks, we hope to pass a FISA bill, to vote on contempt of Congress citations, pass legislation on prisoner re-entry, court security and a variety of other very important items. We were surprised that the minority was so ready to move forward with consideration of a matter of such complexity as impeaching the Vice President. The Chairman will discuss today's vote with the Committee members but it would seem evident that the committee staff should continue to consider, as a preliminary matter, the many abuses of this Administration, including the Vice President."

15. I think that's more of an "in your face!" (taunt) than declaration of intent.

"We were surprised that the minority was so ready to move forward with consideration of a matter of such complexity as impeaching the Vice President."

That's the sound of a political "Gotcha!" ... essentially shoving their game-playing votes down their throats.

6. Probably. The MSM covered this for about a minute today. Now, it's a footnote in their blogs.
That says it's over to me.

8. Wasn't Conyers the one holding the simulated impeachment hearings?
Don't tell me that was all a farce. He was talking about impeachment more than almost anybody else, pushing it to the media. Then I see he switched his vote from pro-impeachment to against impeachment today. What was that all about?

Isn't impeachment what he said he wanted? Wasn't that a big issue for him? I hope he didn't change his mind.

11. To me, he should go ahead . Use the republican vote as cover.
Say the republicans were for looking into it by sending it to him instead of tabling it. That would give the leadership cover too since they work hard to appeal to republicans.

13. I don't think so. Don't forget that Dennis can always use the
discharge petition to get it out of committee and onto the floor.

16. A majority of the House must sign a discharge order for it to get out of committee.
In other words, that won't happen.

17. The Republicans voted NOT to table it...
looks like they want a debate on the floor. Why wouldn't they want to sign a discharge petition?

20. Didn't someone post that Conyers was for impeachment.
I am pretty sure they said he did. But I really think Democrats would impeach because they know they won't be able to pass it. And if it doesn't pass it would make bush and republicans look better.

21. Conyers was all talk, when faced with the reality of impeachment he crawls away.
Funny how when impeachment becomes a viable discussion, all of a sudden it is "complex" and they are "very busy". He got called on his threat and now we are seeing how hollow that threat was. Conyers was in this for the celebrity status in the impeachment community. He will not stand tall now.
