You Know Leahy Is Begging Conyers to Report Articles of Impeachment
Remember the challenge Cheney issued to Senator Leahy on the floor of the Senate?

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=leahy+cheney+go+yourself

Rumor has it that Senator Leahy - Senate Judiciary Chair - is offering Conyers foot rubs, sending flowers, detailing his car ...

; )

5. Wouldn't it be Special if Conyers extended Leahy the courtesy of 'sitting in' on Cheney Hearings?
IF Conyers ever convened an investigative hearing on the Cheney impeachment resolution, Leahy could be present if the House Judiciary Committee voted to extend that courtesy to him.

I bet Leahy would have a few pertinent questions to ask witnesses related to Cheney.

6. If Henry Hyde Got a Medal of Freedom for Impeaching Clinton...
... just think of the reward that awaits Conyers.

Actually, I think Leahy would send another Senator, to preserve his gavel's resonance after the articles of impeachment came to his committee.

14. Senator Whitehouse was great yesterday at the Mukasey confirmation
he got right to the heart of the matter, and commented on the spiraling down of this government.

19. He'd Make a Very Effective Surrogate...
... though I'd also like to see some thought given to Electoral College math too, giving a prominent role to a swing state lawmaker (e.g., Ohio - Kucinich aside, of course).

7. One can only hope
Our Dem representative in Congress are being a bit shy about putting the bush admin. in its place. Today was something else, pure sick comedy. The beast is coming out in this old lady. Hating is hard on the system. We need to see george/dick squirm at least a little bit. Neither are looking to swell these days, maybe they are feeling the hatred out in the country. Pretty well convinced they don't care if they are loved tho.

Impeachment would cost them big bucks and having their dirty laundry spread across the front pages of the NYT and WP would be frightening for even those evil bastards.

10. You know, I don't think so.
I think the leadership is scrambling to make this go away just as they worked hard to pre-empt it when they came into power.

This totally screws with their 2008 strategy / thinking. It's a risk and you know how much pols enjoy risk.

In a way, I don't blame them because they stand to win big and get a healthy majority back after all these years.

I'd stock up on popcorn.

16. I agree.
Every time I hear him on VPR, he's angrier and opener about his belief that the admin is openly flouting laws.

25. I think the thing is...that we had a
free press back then and now we have the bushits and the mediawhores trying to control what goes down and that changes the landscape, considerably.

Still..we have to forge on with what is right not what is politically expedient. Yeah, if only some of the IWR voters had listened to that one.

20. No, they haven't and Leahy hasn't forgotten that either..
VDB: Yeah, I don’t think there’s any other way to look at it. And when you call it what it is, it was biological warfare conducted against the highest levels of the US government.

Leahy: What I want to know — I have a theory. But what I want to know is why me, why Tom Daschle, why Tom Brokaw?

VDB: Right. That all fits into the profile of a kind of hard-core and obviously insane ideologue on the far Right, somebody who would fixate on especially Tom Daschle, who at that point was the target of daily, vitriolic attacks on Right-wing talk radio.

Leahy: I don’t think it’s somebody insane. I’d accept everything else you said. But I don’t think it’s somebody insane. And I think there are people within our government — certainly from the source of it — who know where it came from. And these people may not have had anything to do with it, but they certainly know where it came from.”

22. And I think that's dead right
they weren't insane, and people in the gov't knew where it came from. Someday we will too, hopefully.

23. If you read the whole interview..
the fact that two people died as a result of touching a letter that he was supposed to open weighs heavily on his mind. I don't think he'll ever let this go.

Every Democrat should realize how critical it is that we get the White House and majorities back in 2008 so that we can have a chance at an unobstructed investigation into this and so many other things.
