School vouchers defeated in Utah by huge margin
Our legislature passed vouchers in March and the governor signed it. A petition drive got it on the ballot and today it was defeated 63% to 37%. (not final) In UTAH!

And my son's candidate (he was campaign manager) won for city council 58% to 42% over an incumbent.

Happy days.

(Oh, yeah, and the dem won for mayor of Salt Lake by 64% to 36% with 95% of the vote in. We knew he'd win but he was predicted to win by 56 to 44%, not that big of a margin.)

And Bush approval rating down to 47% in Utah. No long quite a true blue. Maybe people are fed up enough to vote?

6. yeah, that's who my son defeated
well, he was Luke Garrot's campaign manager. He's pretty psyched. We just came from the campaign party. (After making sure he had a designated driver).

Great night all around!!!!

9. Congrats! I never liked Nancy Saxton, even though she said she was a Democrat.

7. I've been here all my life, there is something about being an outsider that grows on you
yes, I'm smug about it.

There should be a sign at the border "Welcome to Utah, pick a side."

I know a few people who announced they are switching to the democratic party they are so pissed about the legislature passing vouchers. My sister in law, good mormon republican, was big in the petition drive (she was head of the PTA a few years ago) and vowed to never vote for a republican again as long as she lives.

We'll see, but still. She was pissed. Hope it lasts.

8. Your son has a political future.
Beating an incumbent is a lovely thing to put on a resume.
