Elizabeth Kucinich steals the show at breast cancer summit
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 08:37 AM by OzarkDem
A breast cancer summit sponsored by the GOP aligned Komen Foundation, Elizabeth Kucinch talked about her husband's plans for a single payer health care system. It appears from the headlines, the intention was to showcase Judy Giuliani, playing on her husband's prostate cancer. But Elizabeth stole the show and spoke about issues important to survivors. Nancy Brinker must be fuming.

Wearing a long pink coat that matched the ribbons worn by many breast-cancer survivors in the room, Mrs. Kucinich spoke about Britain’s health care system.

“We really have an affordable health care system, and I don’t see why America is afflicted with a system where we have insurance companies in business who make money not providing health care,” Mrs. Kucinich said, as the audience broke into loud applause.

Mr. Giuliani has repeatedly criticized Britain’s health care system and said that the Democratic candidates were calling for a similar system of “socialized medicine.” (In fact, most of the Democrats say they advocate plans to extend coverage to the uninsured, not plans for government-provided health care.)

Mrs. Giuliani had already left by the time Mrs. Kucinich spoke.

From the New York Daily News

"Giuliani, 52, was so careful that she was roundly upstaged by 30-year-old Elizabeth Kucinich, wife of third-tier Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich, who spoke without notes and, unlike Giuliani, stuck around to chat after the event."

3. good for her! She's very impressive.
Too bad, Mrs. G had already left when Elizabeth gave her speech.

btw, that's not the first time I've read that the Komen foundation was allied with the GOP. Do you have any links?

6. The founder, Nancy Brinker, the sister of Susan Komen, is a Bushite
One would hope that the organization is non-partisan, but Repukes have a hard time doing "non-partisan".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Brinker

On June 18, 2007, President George W. Bush nominated Brinker to be Chief of Protocol of the United States and to have the rank of ambassador and assistant under secretary of state. Brinker was sworn in to the post on September 14, 2007.

In this role, Brinker advises, assists and supports the president of the United States, the vice president and the secretary of state on official matters of diplomatic procedure. She accompanies the president on official visits abroad and serves as the president's personal representative and liaison to the foreign Ambassadors in Washington. Under her direction, the Office of the Chief of Protocol is responsible for activities including the planning, hosting and officiating of ceremonial events for visiting chiefs of state and heads of government, as well as coordinating logistics for the visits. The office also manages Blair House, the president's guesthouse.
