Why Impeachment Now? The Answer.
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 09:45 AM by berni_mccoy
I hate it when this question comes up. It makes one think, "good question, why indeed?" After all, Bush and Cheney have been committing crimes since they stepped into office. Worse yet, it makes you think that the Democrats have "allowed" them to do these things. But it only takes a minute to remember that the Democrats have been in control of Congress for just 10 months, where there has been well over 7 years of damage done by the past Congresses and the Bush Administration. The Republican Controlled Congress certainly never would have held BushCo accountable. There is much to be restored to the pre-Bush reign of terror. Still, the American people were eager, for this Congress to do something immediately. And on the top of the list were End the War in Iraq and Hold the Administration Accountable. But then, one appropriations bill after another was passed, with no binding limitations on the spending. Bush continued to wage war, soldiers continued to die. Nothing was being done on ending the War. However, within the first three months, a resolution of Impeachment had been drafted and introduced. It was referred to the Judicial Committee, a reasonable first step. Somewhere, somehow, the Democratic Leadership valued undoing all the damage that had been done over the last 7 years more than the two primary objectives they had been elected for. And they believed, erroneously, that the only way to accomplish that, was to play nice with Bush. However, bill, after bill, after bill, was vetoed and only a small number of Democratic "agenda" items were sneaking through (mostly attached to war funding). Their agenda wasn't getting done, and America's agenda was "off the table" so to speak. Now Americans were becoming rabid for their goals to be pursued by Congress. Where was that Impeachment Article? Stalled in the Judiciary Committee, held captive by the Speaker of the House. And that leads us to yesterday, when Rep. Kucinich was first able to issue a Question of Privilege, a special parliamentary procedure that allows a Congressmen to get a bill introduced into the house floor. And because the Democratic "leadership" has been floundering without a plan to achieve their "agenda" and have left America's agenda locked up in committee, and because they were still not willing to throw down the gauntlet at the Administration... One Brave Representative, with Courage, stepped forward to introduce his Resolution for Impeachment. And he almost succeeded. That is why only yesterday did the words Impeachment even break onto the radar of the MSM.

This Resolution is now in the Committee where three of its cosigners can begin investigations.
