My dangerous election predictions
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 09:44 AM by LuckyTheDog
Predicting the future is always dangerous. But here is my '08 election prediction -- subject to revision later:
-- Hillary Clinton will get the Democratic Party nomination and pick Bill Richardson as her running mate.

-- Giuliani will get the GOP nomination and pick Mike Huckabee as his running mate.

-- A month into the campaign the GOP will start wishing Huckabee was at the TOP of the ticket.

-- Hillary will win a big Electoral Vote landslide and a smaller, but still impressive popular vote landslide.

-- Hillary Clinton will take the Oath of Office with an approval rating of only about 45%.

-- Expanded Democratic majorities in the Congress will finally increase the pressure to end the occupation of Iraq.

1. Some good thinking there and I mostly agree.
I would prefer Clark as VP but I can see Richardson as a balance to HRC, altho a bland one (that may be a good reason for her to pick him).

I like your Rudy/Huckabee combo. They are both wackadoo enough to drive voters to the Dem ticket!

Hillary probably won't be at 45% but it won't be too much higher. She will, however, do everything possible to get past the deadlock in Iraq and will strive mightily to get universal health care passed.

You are right about the majorities in both houses of Congress. We are already seeing red state turning bluer. Kentucky just did yesterday! The deep south prolly will remain red, poor, undereducated, crime and poverty ridden places. If HRC is smart she will try to help them because there are good people there who don't deserve their fate.

2. A fairly likely scenario
Rudi might have a different Veep pick, but that's not really important. Hillary isn't my fave, but I'll certainly take her over anyone the Republicans are offering.

3. Mike Huckabee has a TON of support in the Southern
States. He could prove to be trouble.

4. VP won't be Richardson--
not good in debates and not a great campaigner, and not good-looking (yes, that will matter). Huckabee won't be on any ticket--Wayne Dumond. Also, he's not a conservative--he's like a pro-gun, pro-life Democrat to the Freeper crowd. They REALLY don't like him. I agree that Hillary will win, but not by a big popular-vote margin.

8. Huckabee and Giuliani are like oil and water... besides Huckabee is not a coalition builder...
Huckabee is very rigid in his beliefs and positions, and that comes across in one on one interviews. It makes him less effective as a running mate to any Repub seeking independents/undecideds and unaffiliated voters.

9. If Obama does not get the Nomination, he is the top choice for VP Running Mate...
... and would be perfectly positioned to run for President once the Dem President serves out his term(s).

13. well, that would be better, but they are not capitulating by slim margins
they're doing it in large numbers. So, there would have to be also a changeover of a lot of existing spineless dems with real dems in order for what you say to actually happen.

14. Having a Dem president and a bigger majority
will make spines less necessary.
