E-mail from CHRIS DODD: Subject: "They're tapping into the entire internet"
Several years ago, my informant with IT insider info, reported this to me and added that ALL COMMUNICATIONS are then routed outside the USA to circumvent both US law and the US Constitution. What are the implications of this scenario? Well, imagine all Democratic Party communications being monitored. Need I say more, like insider trading info ..... Here is the Dodd e-mail:

=================
Dear L. Coyote,

Watch an AT+T Whistleblower Discuss Retroactive Immunity - Watch the Video = http://chrisdodd.com/whistleblower

In spring of 2006 I started seeing people put special notes to government agents in their email signature. The thinking was that if a government official was going to read your email, you might as well put a line in at the end to remind them that they were doing so illegally.

Yesterday afternoon I sat down with AT&T whistleblower Mark Klein. He's the technician who revealed that the NSA has secret rooms for sweeping up massive amounts of electronic communications on the internet - the story that prompted these sardonic email signatures.

Klein is calling on the Senate to not grant telecommunications companies retroactive immunity. He's also testifying to the scale of the Bush Administration's electronic surveillance:

"Everything you could imagine you use the internet for flows through these cables. It's not only international traffic, but a huge amount of domestic traffic too."

Klein is speaking out in defense of the rule of law because he knows how deep the rabbit hole of domestic surveillance really goes. ....

Klein is a hero for coming forward to bear witness to this dangerous violation of Americans' privacy...but the best way to honor his courage is to stand with him and with Senator Dodd to ensure that the companies that partnered with the Bush Administration can be held accountable for their actions.

Take action today - Call the Senate Judiciary Committee and tell them to oppose retroactive immunity.

Matt Browner-Hamlin
Campaign Blogger

PS - If you can, take a moment to pass the video along ...

3. My response at that website
to an Anonymous poster who claims that immunity for telcos is needed, lest the consumer have to pay the cost. That poster doesn't understand how the American bankruptcy system works - the only one who would have to pay would be the executives and officials who authorized warrantless wiretaps. This is my response:

Dear Anon (above) -

Those who wrote the FISA law intended that AT&T, which then had a near-monopoly on long-distance lines, act in its own interest and report to the FISA Court any demands made by gov't agencies to carry out warrantless surveillance. The criminal and civil penalties built into the Act are the incentive to the telcos to enforce the Act.

The telcos later failed to act in their own self-interest, and should now pay. Let them go into bankruptcy and better management will take over their assets.

7. I have what may be a "duh" question...
I'm sorry I don't have time to Google myself at the moment, so I'm posting it here, hoping someone has the answer.

Didn't Bushco start the wiretapping process PRIOR to 9/11 - didn't that come to light fairly recently?

If so, why isn't anyone pitching a fit about this blatant lie, since they said they instituted this AFTER 9/11, and BECAUSE of 9/11.

If they were indeed doing illegal wiretapping and perhaps even this Internet surveillance prior to 9/11, why aren't they being slammed for another huge failure on their part?

I know, I know....there are so many lies and so many crimes, it's difficult to know which one to scream the loudest about...but I've been wondering why this little tidbit isn't at least on KO. Maybe it has been covered and I've missed it, or maybe there is no proof that they started it pre-9/11?

Gen. Hayden, who was then the head of the NSA. The Bush Administration later retaliated against the QWEST executive and the company. See, http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/10/11/17489/086

If Mr. Nacchio knew enough to question the "legality and ethics" of what was being discussed, so did the other telco execs. Only, they weren't indicted for alleged stock irregulaties by one of Gonzales' US Attorneys, but he was. Instead of indictments for violating FISA, they're seeking immunity after being paid billions to carry out illegal surveillance. Just a teeny conflict of interest?

15. I consider it this way
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 06:19 PM by undergroundpanther
It's bad..and when you think it's bad it's usually 100 times worse.
There are too many authoritarians ,psychopaths and charismatic bullies in power and so very little checks on these horrible personalities they will do worse much worse than they will ever say to us.Because it is the kind of people they ARE.They have NO CONSCIENCE.And not enough non psychopaths to act as the LIMIT holders on these psychopaths in power. To Be a check to power one must have a CONSCIENCE.And there is NO people of conscience in Washington with ANY power to whistle blow and check the abuses of power happening now. There are too many old boy network authoritarian, psychopaths and narcissists in power with too much money and too much secrecy.. .That toxic mix leads to a corrupted greedy sick government that abuses power and hides the abuses they do for as long as they can get away with it .ALWAYS.

Just like a pedophile threatens his victims into silence by bullying and does his crimes in secret,so does bush and his allies, associates and cronies. They are socialized psychopaths, all of them.

And they have made Washington and the law and the governmental bodies themselves psychologically malfunction to prop up their fiefdoms at the expense of the constitution our rights, and our freedoms.. This is just like an abusive family, the way congress behaves, weak kneed and giving the boy king all the money he can waste, OUR money, without limits. This problem is because OUR country is being bullied, headed by too many petty despots and the enabler personalities and hand wringing by standers, who all behave like a dysfunctional family. They acquiesce power to the despot by avoiding displeasing the bully and his posse ..The halls of power are occupied by a bully 'elite',a band of thugs flush with cash and immunity from responsibility who act like a home tyrant. The kind of shit heads who threaten or hit his own kids to keep his abusive ways secret from others who may intervene..A bully who beats his wife in the most secret places in the house, and isolates his wife from any supports until she cannot remember how to escape...the mess.

So it is with America.,Authoritarians,Narcissists and psychopaths have inherently anti democratic personalities and they do not want to change. So it really is US vs Them, situation because that is the position these vile personalities force all relationships they taint into being like. It is who they are that makes them a problem. And who someone IS cannot be fixed with therapy or jail.
The best you can hope for is they die soon by miracle of miracles.. or are arrested locked in a cell until they die.

26. You would think Republicans would also be outraged over this.
I mean, think of the freaky websites they must visit. Why the hell aren't they outraged?

I still have no idea why Dodd isn't more popular, except that the people who say and do the right things have no shot in our system.
