Poll question: 'A Democrat voted for it. That makes it OK.' Agree or disagree?
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 02:27 PM by DutchLiberal
I come to this post after a discussion I had today with somebody on this board who said that everything a Democrat voted for, is *therefore* absolutely okay. Thus the reason why the Patriot Act is ok, is *because* HRC voted for it. We should obey Democratic politicians blindly.

I was shocked and appalled by this. It felt like reading FreeRepublic.

A DU'er wrote:
201. Don't you think the Patriot Act will be better used by Democrats?

After all, we're not the rabid dogs the Republicans are.

DutchLiberal wrote:
205. Patriot Act should be abolished. It's not a question about Repubs or Dems.

Patriot Act is wrong no matter who is in charge.

A Du'er wrote:
207. Have you read the whole Patriot Act?

Because not even the congressmen who passed it read the whole thing before they voted. That's because it sat in a committee, and the people in the committee knew what should be in there.

You are assuming that there is nothing good about the Patriot Act or its contents, while I know it must have good in it, because a lot of good Democrats, like Hillary, voted for it.

I think you've got RonPaulitis, where just because he was against it, you think it was a bad thing.

DutchLiberal wrote:
221. I think you have Hillaritis, thinking everything she voted for is good.

"The patriot Act MUST be good, because HRC voted for it"??? Are you kidding me? That's Bush-like reasoning you're using there.

Patriot Act is a threat to citizen's privacy. It gives unlimited powers to CIA and FBI. And the traitors who voted for it, you call them "good Democrats". You have a warped sense of reality.

A DU'er wrote:
224. If you've done nothing wrong, why are you so worried.

Hillary is a lock for 2008. She understands and respects our rights of privacy. The only people who need be worried about her "spying" on them are the exact people who need to be spied on.

DutchLiberal wrote:
227. I'm not worried. I just think you're brainwashed and you insult everybody who doesn't blindly adhere

to the kind of Bush-like reasoning you practice, like: "it's good, because a Dem voted for it".

A lot of "good dems", including HRC, voted for the Iraq war. I guess, by your own logic, the Iraq war is a good thing, too.

A DU'er wrote:
230. I think if you look at what I've posted above, I've insulted no one.

I try very hard to be courteous. As for you, if you don't think the fact a Democrat supports something is at the very least EVIDENCE of its worthiness, why are you an a Democratic discussion board? There is value in leadership, and Hillary Clinton is a leader. Politics is a team sport. You don't just go off and form your own opinions without reviewing at least the reasoning behind the opinions of your team.

We win in politics as a team, not as individual "mavericks" going off and forming their own little wings or whatever. Sometimes you have to sacrifice your personal misgivings and simply do what is good for the team.

There is no I in TEAM; there is no I in Democrat, either.

DutchLiberal wrote:
254. You must be out of your mind.

What do you think? That every member besides me thinks we should worship the Democratic party blindly, like they did in communist Russia? You must be out of your mind. So the Iraq war was a good thing, because Democrats voted for it?

And you did insult people. You call people who disagree with you names, like when you said I had "RonPaulitis".

4. No, I don't. I provide the arguments somebody else made, so I don't have to type them out.

8. That might be. I have been flamed before for just asking a question.
A lot of DU'ers can be very short-sighted and immediately yell "troll" or "attack", when it's not true. If this turns into a flamefest, it's THEIR fault and NOT mine.

I am just asking a question.

7. Hey Dutch Liberal, the mod is right. Remove the proper names.
That should make it anonymous enough to preserve this before it gets locked.

Hurry, this thread doesn't have much time and, anonymized, it's an excellent thread and an excellent poll question.
