Check out this attack on Obama making the rounds on Myspace
This has appeared on my Bulletins from someone I knew eons ago (who is apparently now an idiot):

Subject: Must see photo
Body: I had heard about this but a picture is definitely worth 1000 words!

Senator Barack Obama, Governor Bill Richardson, Senator Hillary Clinton and Ruth Harkin stand during the national anthem

Barack Hussein Obama's photo (that's his real name)......the article said he REFUSED TO NOT ONLY PUT HIS HAND ON HIS HEART DURING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, BUT REFUSED TO SAY THE PLEDGE.....how can a man like this expect to be our next Commander-in-Chief????

Maybe it's is Muslim roots showing???

4. Well instead of constantly bashing Hillary Clinton people are starting on Obama
Doesn't feel very good to have your candidate bashed for no good reason. I guess it just shows the stupid of people doesn't it. Instead of attacking democrats and each other...I think we should now start to go after republicans for sure.

18. I don't think this one will go far. The fact is he looks like the man here.
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 03:10 PM by lvx35
You could caption the photo with "proud free-thinker" as far as my impressions of it go. He doesn't look disrespectful of the flag at all, in fact he looks the least like a tool out of any of them.

10. Never mind the debunking Snopes does, or the ridiculousness of the charge. . .
It's just plain impossible to tell what's going on from a single snapshot of an event. It could be it's been Photoshopped, or Obama was caught at the moment he first stood and he's waiting for the musicians or presenter to ready themselves. What's Clinton and the other woman looking at? And why's Richardson gazing forelornly at the camera? Why isn't everyone facing the action, instead of turning only their heads? It could be Obama's the only one smart enough to wait for everything to be ready before he "assumes the position." Or maybe he doesn't feel the need to engage in the continual reaffirmation so prevalent among those who don't take their pledges seriously. It's impossible to tell from a single snapshop what is going on in people's heads.

As for myself, I haven't pledged allegiance to the flag or done more than stand for the anthem since I pledged to support and defend the Constitution when I was inducted into military service in the early '70s.

The way I figure it, once you pledge yourself to something, if you truly mean it, you need never do it again. In fact, to do so -- to engage in what I call the "doctrine of continual reaffirmation" -- is to make a mockery of your original vow, as only a meaningless pledge needs constant updating. I affirmed my commitment to the Constitution as a young man. If I ever change my mind, I'll renounce my pledge. Until then, I'll consider it my word, freely given. Any attempt to make me renew it simply insults me and casts aspersions on my honor.

As Ferry Fey wrote in an earlier post, "If they can't trust you to keep your pledge quietly, what's mumbling it going to mean?"

16. I was never taught to put my hand over my heart during the playing
of the national anthem - during the pledge, but not during the anthem. Next spring I'll have to look around the ballpark and see how many people do that.

I also didn't know the behavior was dictated by statute, I thought it was just custom.

17. Me either, and I learned US Flag code to earn a Girl Scout badge.
This allegation is probably coming from people who leave their Independence Day flags outdoors at night and fly the flag on their cars--on the wrong side.

This photo is NOT going to make Obama look bad at all. If Hillary supporters are floating this picture, PLEASE STOP.

20. Standard operating procedure in Chicago.
Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 03:24 PM by ieoeja
I was raised down south and moved to Chicago after college. First Cubs game I was surprised to find myself the only person in my section doing the hand-over-heart thing. Most did not even bother standing, stopping their conversations, whatever. Beer vendors went on hawking their "cold beer here!".

On the flipside, at Chicago Blackhawks game the tradition is to give a standing ovation and cheer loudly from beginning to end of the national anthem. When it comes to stirring patriotism, standing silently (or even singing) with hand-over-heart pales in comparison. So to all those folks who have a problem with the Chicago way, may I extend a very hearty...

BITE ME!
