Social Conservative Groups Mostly Silent On Robertson Endorsement
Michael Roston
November 7, 2007 03:54 PM

Pat Robertson's endorsement this morning of Rudy Giuliani has been met with virtual radio silence from social conservative groups.

A spokeswoman at the Christian Coalition said that Robertson had made the endorsement "in his personal capacity" and so the group wasn't commenting. A spokesman at Focus On The Family similarly told us, "Anything about Pat Robertson we're not talking about." The group's leader, Rev. James Dobson, had warned last month that Christian groups might pick a third party candidate to represent social conservatives if Giuliani was nominated to head the Republican ticket.

Similarly, OneNewsNow, a news website linked to the Christian Coalition of America, published an article headlined "Pro-Family leaders mum on Robertson's endorsement of Rudy." It noted, "OneNewsNow contacted several pro-family leaders to get their reaction to the Robertson endorsement. Some did not return calls, while others said they did not want to comment."

Still, OneNewsNow's Jim Brown was able to find "a close personal friend of Robertson" who "believes the endorsement is "tragic," and that if Giuliani wins the nomination, it "will destroy the Republican Party." So you have to imagine they'll be speaking out in some way soon.

1. I think this is just primary season grumbling.
Once the GOP candidate is determined, the lemmings will fall behind him and vote Repuke in the GE, no matter what.

2. Yes, but I'm thinking many won't be thrilled with Giuliani; how could they
be if they value their values so highly?

7. The RR has had a stranglehold on the Repuke party for a long time.
I don't think they're walking away from that power just if Guiliani is the nominee. And if they put aside their values to vote for someone that doesn't share their views on social issues just for the sake of keeping a Dem out of the WH, wouldn't that make them...hypocrites?

***GASP!!!***

Say it isn't so!

4. But will they get the turnout? Will they get the cults to send the believers to the polls?

8. If it means keeping a Dem (namely Hillary) out of the WH?
You bet they will!

3. Robertson's endorsement of Giuliani means that the fix
is in for Giuliani to change his views on social issues once he gets into the White House. He will run as a social moderate in the wake of Bush's disastrous administration and try to distance himself from the most extreme of Bush's delusions, but once in office, he will reveal his miraculous transformation into a good little fundamentalist republican.

6. Not surprised by Robertson
Since he also supported pro-choice candidate Arnold S for Governor of California. Make no mistake - Robertson is a Republican First and Foremost. All the moralizing is just a sham.

If Rudy is the Republican nominee for President, it will be sorta funny to see sooo many "Good Christians" dismounting from their high-horses, since Giuliani isn't exactly a big pillar of Family Values!
