Like Hagee and Robertson. He should go after all of them, not just the more liberal ones.

1. There isn't anything liberal about the ones he's after
All of them are primarily "Prosperity Gospel" charlatans who are just as right wing as Hagee and Robertson (anti-woman, anti-gay, etc), it's just that they're more concerned with stuffing their pockets than the ballot box.

Of course he won't investigate the outspoken political fundies, that's a given. It's just more an issue of greed than politics with the lot that's been singled out this time.

3. Exactly. It's so damn transparent it's almost funny. I can't wait to hear his

explanation when he's called on it--IF he's ever called on the obvious question.

4. Make no mistake, they are all raking in cash
Robertson and the rest make just as much if not way more money, but they don't spend it in such foolish ways on items that quickly lose value. While Dollar and Long buy Bentleys, Robertson is forming mega-million dollar corporations. So is the criteria going to be who flaunts it the most?

5. But Chovexani is absolutely correct--this isn't about politics, it's about

playing politics with church money.

Those that are being investigated simply aren't charitable enough--to the GOP.

I just want to witness when Sen. Grassley gets asked about it--big IF he's asked about the obvious hypocrisy.

Edit--my typing sucks lately.

7. Oh of course, they're all crooks
It's just that the Dollars and the Hinns, the people with Bentleys are that much more obvious, and have less political clout than Robertson. They might share the same ideology but they're not necessarily in on those conference calls with Dobson and Ralph Reed.

It's the flaunting and lack of political following that makes them easier targets for Grassley. He can look like he's standing up to fundie greed and corruption, without really going after the big dogs that form the Repuke base. Even a lot of fundies bemoan the excesses of the TBN crowd...while ignoring shit like Robertson's stables and whatnot, because he "stands up for Godliness" or some bullshit. My mom constantly praises her pastor for not being like that, conveniently ignoring the fact that the church itself looks like a 5-star hotel, complete with gourmet restaurant, cafes, a bookstore, and huge tanks filled with very expensive tropical fish. Not to mention the fact that the pastor lives in a fucking mansion in the Hamptons, his 8 billion kids go to private school (all sons, I'm sure the daughters were drowned in the Long Island Sound or soemthing), and he drives a Mercedes.

Their hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me.

2. Why, they are very charitable, I'm sure.
To the moneychangers at the GOP temple...

6. How can Grassley investigate anything?
It's not like he's a committee chairman or has any subpoena power or anything.

8. It's all show. He senses a backlash and he's gonna get face time for it.
And note who he ISN'T looking at...

9. Smoke and mirrors, my friend...
Grassley will blow his own horn for awhile, then let this die quietly. Rinse, lather, repeat. Makes my fellow Iowans feel like he's doin' somethin'.

11. Well, he's put the media spotlight on a fitting target--he just missed
the biggest targets completely (Osteen, Crouches, DOBSON, ROBERTSON--hmm, I wonder why...)

12. Make that a double.
He has a few viable issues that he works on, but I don't know if thew good he does outweighs the bad. At the end of the day, if an issue doesn't affect the party line, he'll fight for it.
