Russian President Vladimir Putin has welcomed Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, saying he hoped cooperation between the giant neighbours can help China achieve goals set by its ruling Communist Party last month.

Putin said he congratulated Wen on a successful national party congress and said the Chinese leadership had "set out big plans for the development of the People's Republic of China".
"We hope that Russian-Chinese cooperation will be a significant contribution to the realisation of those plans," Putin said
China looks to energy-rich Russia to help fuel its economy.
When Chinese leader Hu Jintao visited Moscow in March, he and Putin pledged to expand economic cooperation, which has lagged behind thriving military and security ties.
Wen said relations with Russia are a priority for China, Russian news agencies reported.
