Help Us Put Gore on California Ballot

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win."
- Mahatma Gandhi

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine just after he won the Noble Peace Prize, Al Gore was asked what he had to say to those of us who are working to bring him into the race. Here is a part of his answer: "If I do get back in the political system in the future – well, keep that energy stored up and let's have a go at it then." A few days before, Gore's Chief of Staff, Roy Neel, said that Gore has not ruled out a run in the future and then defined "future" as "after today."

The campaign to put Al Gore's name on the California ballot is a very significant stepping stone to getting Gore into the race. But we're running out of time. We need to raise funds to hire help in collecting signatures in our rural, red congressional districts. You can help. Please make a contribution today.

http://www.california4gore.org/contribute

Since October 8, volunteers across the California have been gathering the signatures of registered Democrats on Nomination Papers issued by the California Secretary of State nominating Al Gore's name to be placed on the February 5 California presidential primary ballot. We have been slowed by the fires. We have also been slowed in the rural districts, where Democrats are spread out and we have fewer volunteers.

We cannot reach everyone who supports Al Gore and wants to have their voice be heard without your help, We have less than four weeks to collect 500 signatures in every congressional district. We will need to use professional petition circulaters on a spot-basis. This requires money. Please help us raise enough money to put Gore on the California primary ballot. Give whatever you can.

http://www.california4gore.org/contribute

There are 370 Democratic delegates at stake in the California primary. Al Gore polls a strong second place in California as an undeclared candidate. Putting Gore's name on the ballot will give Californian Democrats a loud voice that will be heard across the nation. Please help us to make it happen, now.

Bar none.

You're "thanks for kicking my thread" game is a scornful little act. To highlight it, I had to parody it.

I suspect that's what's obviously got your goat.

You are lying about me, pure and simple. I'm not acting "as if Gore is opposed to having his name on the ballot in California".

So, at least my personal comment has a basis. Your's did not.

And if I ever do spew bullshit, you should call me on it. Grow some balls.

34. Quit being so selfish. Seriously.
I don't mean that as an attack, it is just frustration. HE DOESN'T WANT TO WALLOW IN THE MUD OF POLITICS ANY MORE.

He has a message -- and a platform to deliver it where it will be heard by many more than if he were mired in the brazillion things that get slammed into the Oval office every day.

How would you like it if someone decided that you "needed" to do something that you didn't want to do? Seriously! You have an aversion to blood and faint at the sount/sight/smell of vomit, yet someone is going to pull you from your roots and make you go to nursing school? You loathe math, but someone is going to pull you up from your roots and make you crunch numbers all day?

Hows about we let AL decide what is best for AL/TIPPER and not waste time/money/effort forcing something that he himself has stated that he doesn't want to do?

Hows about we allow AL to live his life and do what it is he WANTS to do -- spend 100% of his time educating the world about climate change without the pecky interferences that come with the WhiteHouse.

Love you all here -- but this is really getting old already. We have qualified candidates out there and we are going to be left holding the DLC bag because of pipe dreams, selfish desires and an inability to let go of the past.

Al has moved on. Isn't it time we all do as well?

Forgive the rant.

62. Honestly?
I think that if we sincerely show this man and humbly ask him, that he is "big" enough to forgive. He will work for the good of his country and the world. I think that he is a man of honor. I don't think force is the proper term. Although, he has a lot going on, I think he would reconsider and find it in his heart to serve his country if called upon. That is my hope.

74. Why is that so hard for some people on here to understand?
I don't get it. I consider this place to have some of the best, brightest and most political savvy. When it comes to this issue, they get all D'uh like. Why?

77. Bias.
They have a horse in the race that they want to win, so they don't want to admit the possibility that they have donated time, effort and money to a candidate who isn't going to win.

It also disturbs them that such a large % of the party is unhappy with the current choices, so much so that they are willing to put time, effort and money into someone who hasn't announced in the slim hope that this individual will save them from the current crop of unacceptable candidates.

If I was a fan of any of the other candidates, I would probably try to find some way to "rule out" Gore as well.

86. Very few people know the system better than he does.
If there is any possible way to become President without running a tiring, painful, wasteful and divisive campaign, not only would he know what it is, but in reality he is one of a very select few who has the ability to make it happen.

Seems pretty simple to me.

79. Unlike 2002 ...
Gore has most certainly NOT ruled out accepting the Presidency. But he wants US to do the initial legwork, which is why getting him on the California ballot would be so huge. If we build and strengthen the movement, I feel certain he will respond positively. ( The Hillary/Rudy draw in the latest poll is TRULY frightening, and inspiration enough to make sure we draft Gore ! )

So let's keep working, and keep urging Al to do the right thing. What do we have to lose ( 'cept the planet ) ?!?

81. Why, if he doesn't want to be there?
I honestly don't get this.

83. Who said he doesn't want to be there?
Did I miss something? He's said he has no plans to be a candidate, (probably because he doesn't want to deal with the bullshit of a mainstream political campaign), but does that mean he doesn't want the Presidency? I think he wants it very much, and it is very possible to make it happen.

85. He did..
So, either he's a liar or he doesn't want it, which is it?

Former US vice president Al Gore said Wednesday that his Nobel Peace Prize triumph had not altered his intention to stay out of the 2008 presidential race.

But Gore could still shake up the Democratic Party nomination by endorsing a candidate other than front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Speculation following the peace prize announcement last week that Gore would run was quashed he told Norwegian broadcaster NRK: "I don't have plans to be a candidate again, so I don't really see it in that context at all."

He added: "I'm involved in another kind of campaign. It's a global campaign to change the way people think about the climate crisis."

Last month, Gore, 59, said he would likely endorse a Democrat for president before the primary season was over, the Washington Post reported.

87. Ok, rephrase it then.
I don't know if he wants to be there or not. He keeps saying that he's not going to run, though. I wrestled with the "does he really mean it" question myself, and my conclusion is that yes, he does mean it.

He doesn't want to run. My interpretation of his remarks.
