Right now Al Gore leads with 6073 votes.
Obamba is next at 4763.

How much you wanna bet they go with JK Rowling (currently in 4th place at 4244 votes)?

2. I wouldn't have picked any of those on the list.
Gore - last year
Hillary and Barack - next year if they get the nomination
Rowling - never
Jobs - how has he had a major impact on the U.S.?

Is Time seriously saying that their person of the year will be from this list? If so, then I'd give it to Gore bcs he has won so many prizes that publicly acknowledge/acclaim the work he's done. But as the article pointed out - most of his work was not this year. Maybe you can argue that there was a lag and his biggest impact was in fact 2007.

12. So I guess his world concert was nothin'...
Happens everyday...

And a bestselling book...Easy, anybody can do that.

He has been very active with climate change for years, the majority of the publics awareness has happened this year though -- mostly thanks to Al Gore.

Just curious, if you don't care for any of the choices, who would you put on the list?

26. I had forgotten the world concert til you mentioned it.
A best-selling book is not enough you nless you can show how it affected world events, or a large amt of people on a large scale. I agree that his work educating people toward climate change is important, but I didn't see that he had that much impact in 2007. How did people change what they did now, or how they viewed the world now because of what he did in 2007? I am still disappointed when I talk to non-DU'ers about Gore - many act like he is a has-been, even the Dems I know. I think Gore is still building up to his major impact to the world and I hope 2008 is it. Obviously you disagree with me, which doesn't bother me. I'd like to see Gore win this award bcs I think it would have a huge impact on many causes I am so passionate about. Can you support that the majority of public awareness due to Gore's efforts has happened in 2007? I'd like to see that.

As for affecting so many people across the U.S. or the world, I'd definitely include someone from China on that list. I see that TIME has Ju Hintao on the list, but he isn't listed on the list of 5 in the OP. I don't know if he's the right one to represent all of China, but surely all the contaminated food, toys, pet food, etc. that has come out of China this year has exploded on the scene and affected many in their view of where they buy goods. And not everything from China is tainted, but this year has seen phenomenal economic growth from China.

6. They didn't offer Michael Moore as a choice
and he'd be mine for educating people about the collapse of the health care system in this country under the weight of profit oriented MBAs who will deny care and kill people to increase the bottom line and make themselves look good.

So I voted for Gore, who'd have been my second choice.

designates as the Person of the Year?

30. right now, J.K. Rowling is winning by a comfortable margin . . .
just goes to show where Americans priorities lie . . . anyone who entertains the masses (performers, athletes, pop authors, etc.) will always win over politicians or even statesmen . . .
