103. In my area, COMCAST no longer provides C-span 2 -- you have to go to internet ---
That's a lot of people in NJ NOT SEEING THIS DEBATE . . .

Coincidental --- ????

161. cspan 2 on comcast
Where I am they've moved cspan2 from channel 68 up to 247.

Try bringing up your guide on the remote and then page through into the 200's.

162. Basically, no one served by COMCAST in NJ is seeing the SENATE . . .
that's the point I'm trying to make ---

Here, they moved C-span 2 to a higher tier in order to broadcast it in high definition!!!

That's a crock of course -- they did it to make this info less accessible.

From the time Comcast first took over they were pulling the plug on C-span 2 --
limiting viewing times, etc.

It's a pretty big thing when the SENATE is no longer generally available to so many viewers, IMO.

163. comcast in NJ
"Here, they moved C-span 2 to a higher tier in order to broadcast it in high definition!!!"

Groan...
Here, the 247 channel is part of one of the "basic" packages that we have, so we are apparently "lucky" -- But jeez... we should all be lucky and have cspan 1 & 2 as part of the city's bargain that allows them to do business here. Basic good citizenship!

When I couldn't find cspan2 last night, I thought, like you, that they were limiting our access to the debate, but finally found it. Just hoped that it'd help to know that they're moving it around like a freaking chess piece.

... keep on keepin' on ...

164. Yeah --- Comcast sometimes feels like Diebold --
I can only watch C-span 2 on the internet ---
you know, you have to remember to check it every day --- it just doesn't always happen.

But, Comcast, as I said was killing it from the moment they took over --

They also did something really cute -- I think it was the 2004 election --- they changed ALL of the channels like 36 hours before the election !!!!

Meanwhile, I could get C-span 2 if I have Comcast come and put in a box --- and all that crap.
And give them another $5-6 a month for the pleasure of it all!!!

They suck on internet service here, as well --

AND, COMCAST is making $500 million or more every year from internet pornography!!!

Do you get any of that with your incoming mail--???

35. Remember GOPs gave Lieberman floor time to attack Kerry on Kerry-Feingold
Iraq withdrawal. That floor speech started the decline in Joe's poll numbers in Conn. and Lamont ended up winning the primary.

Hillary made a floor speech against that withdrawal timetable, too, but she had it scrubbed from her senate site once she started her primary race.

14. No, but Mukasey will hold his nose while he allows Bush to torture…
You see, holding one’s nose while compromising core values completely changes the nature of the act. Thus: If I vote for a proponent of Resource Wars while ‘holding my nose’, it’s completely moral.

Now, it’s true that no one could get Mukasey to find water-boarding illegal. But, he did say it was repugnant. And THAT is clearly a coded message to Democrats that he will indeed hold his nose while allowing Bush to torture.

There. Don’t you feel better about Feinstein already?

37. Feinstein causes independents leaning Democrat
to take a second look. Obviously, many are not up to the job of running the country. The minute the President goes BOO, they run for the hills and say yes sir. The idea that the acting AG is going to be worse because he agrees to torture, while Mukasey can't figure out what torture really is, and then says we'll follow the law (the same law that has consistently been broken) is laughable. Who cares if the Senate doesn't "advise and consent" if there is consent is simply, Yes sir, may I have another?

He also was careful to call waterboarding 'controlled' drowning that could easily result in death rather than 'simulated' drowning. Good for him to hammer that point home, as well as list the JAGs' opinions and go through examples of cases where the US had already convicting others for waterboarding our soldiers.

59. That is correct!
To answer an earlier question on whether or not Mukasy will be confirmed, I think even if Schumer or DiFi flip, he can still be confirmed. I think they have enough votes. I hope I'm mistaken. It may depend on how many vote tonight. Anyone else know this?

57. Schumer is full of crap!
Scott Horton worked with Mukasey:

I have very strong conflicting views about the vote which is coming in the Judiciary Committee. I believe that Mukasey, as an individual, is exceptionally well qualified to serve as attorney general. I would approve the Mukasey who says he "personally" finds waterboarding abhorrent. But I am troubled by the "official" Mukasey who is being trotted out as something different. And I believe that the nation cannot, at this stage, accept the appointment of an attorney general who refuses to come clean on the torture issue. In the end this is essential to national identity, and to the promise of the Justice Department to serve as a law enforcement agency. Too much of what the Justice Department has done of late has little resemblance to law enforcement. Rather it looks to be just the opposite.

If the Bush Administration wants to turn torture into a litmus test, so must Congress. The question therefore ultimately becomes one of principle and not personality. The Judiciary Committee should not accept any nominee who fails to provide meaningful assurance on this issue. And, though it saddens me to say this, Michael Mukasey has not.

Why does Schumer believe Mukasey is going to be independent?

73. So frustrating
His whole logic is that "it could be worse"

Well, if Bush boy sends worse, you just keep saying no. And saying no. And no again.

He sets the bar embarrassingly low: well he's better than Gonzales, or whoever the president will leave in there...

And the other thing he misses is that this potential AG has pretty much said, by his actions, that he will not investigate the crimes of this administration, including those concerning torture.

An AG who won't investigate crimes.

Yeah, but he's better than Gonzales.
