Just watched SICKO...
I still have a knot in my stomach. If you have not seen this movie, please do. I am one of the lucky ones to have health insurance through my union. I am calling my representative tomorrow to demand that he support H.R. 676 for universal healthcare.

My wife joked that we should move to France. I told her that if we all moved away, who would be here to fight for what is right?

1. It really is a sickening display
of how our country has gone off the rails.

2. I watched it on DVD before the DVD was released
bootlegged for $5. Some of the horror stories, like the lady getting thrown out because she can't pay the bills, are just unbelieveable. I wonder if all doctors were required to understand what the Hyppocratic Oath means, then they would at least have a conscience. Dying of a "non-lethal" illness shouldn't ever happen.

Apart from that, it was somewhat annoying how they portray Canada, Britain, France, and Cuba as utopias. They could introduce a healthy dose of criticism to show that no system is problem free (even though the current one in the US is totally shameful).

3. Ever read Paul Krugman's "Conscience of a Liberal"?
Just started it. Some great historical and sociological perspective so far.
