TIME's Person of the Year: AL GORE. No contest. Nobel, Oscar, 30 Rock last night!
Really, who else? The man has made global warming THE issue. Rick Stengal is on Morning Joe, talking about the meeting of TIME managers yesterday with Brian Williams, Whoopie Goldberg, George Allen (huh), and others. Several mentioned "Mother Earth" (excellent choice - but BECAUSE Al Gore has pushed this as an issue). Macaca Allen picked Gen. Betrayus and the U.S. Army. Another woman picked Sarcozy - France is cool again.

Stengel says Gore is on the "list", JK Rowling, Putin. Joe "dead intern" Scarborough picks B*sh, natch.

Sorry. Al Gore is the MAN.

BTW - did anyone catch him on 30 Rock last night?

put a 1 in. Her overall rating seemed high compared to her "accomplishments"

2. I sure did.
The bit they used in the promo was the best part, I thought. "A whale is in trouble. I have to go." Al exits, removing his suitcoat, Clark Kent fashion. :D

4. How does Al expect to advance his agenda
when we have such poor leadership, when our country is in such terrible shape that we no longer have the power to address such a big issue?

Does he understand that nothing will change if we can't turn our own country around, if the global economy collapses from neglect and corruption?

7. I wish he's run for Prez. BUT I completely understand his reluctance. And he may end up getting
drafted.

As MLK said, "Justice rides a slow horse."

8. Then he must acknowledge his efforts are fruitless
unless something drastic changes in Washington. Its great to talk about what you want, but you also have to make it happen.

9. His efforts have been anything BUT fruitless. He's even dragged Chimpy and Co. into
the new century. THAT'S an accomplishment. Much more to be done - but Al Gore has awakened the WORLD to our need to address climate change.

10. If you are calling his actions fruitless, then you are calling the actions of millions fruitless...
You don't have to be President to bring about change, and I think the attitude that you have to be an elected official to be able to make change happen is very dangerous. In a democracy we can not merely rely on the President to do what is right, we the people have to work to bring about change.

I would like to see Gore run, but I don't believe his efforts are fruitless if he doesn't run.

13. He's swimming upstream
if he plans to advance his agenda in the current political environment.

I wish he would run, but in not doing so, he greatly diminishes his chances of making real change.

14. He already is making real change.
Sure being President would give him a lot more power than he has now on a wide range of issues, but private citizens can be very effective particularly when they focus on a single issue. Look at Martin Luther King for example, he was never elected to public office but he probably did more to bring about change in this country than most Presidents did. We should not so easily dismiss the power that activists have.

15. Gore And Global Warming are a Joke
Such a pitty so many fall into the scam that is Global Warming.
The founder of the Weather Channel, a man with 35+ years experience whom devoted his whole life to his craft wrote this fantastic blog which I shall post:

COMMENTS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING

By John Coleman

jcoleman@kusi.com

It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming... It is a SCAM.

Some scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long-term scientific data back in the late 1990's to create an illusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental wacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the "research" to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild "scientific" scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda.

Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmental conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15-minute documentary segment.

I do not oppose environmentalism. I do not oppose the political positions of either party.

However, Global Warming, i.e. Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you "believe in." It is science, the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a nonevent, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won't believe me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it.

I have read dozens of scientific papers. I have talked with numerous scientists. I have studied. I have thought about it. I know I am correct. There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril.

I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter arguments by the high priest of Global Warming.

In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious. As temperatures rise, polar ice cap melting, coastal flooding and super storm pattern will all fail to occur as predicted, and everyone will come to realize we have been duped.

The sky is not falling. And, natural cycles and drifts in climate are as much if not more responsible for any climate changes underway.

I strongly believe that the next twenty years are equally as likely to see a cooling trend as they are to see a warming trend.
