James Dobsons freaks sues for religious rights at Mount Rushmore
http://www.suntimes.com/news/nation/643059,CST-NWS-rush09.article

November 9, 2007

PIERRE, S.D. -- America's ''shrine of democracy'' is the setting for another fight over religion and public land.
A Christian law group is accusing Mount Rushmore officials of trampling the free speech and religious rights of a Minnesota man who alleges he cannot get a permit to distribute religious materials at the national monument.

The Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund has filed a lawsuit in federal court against monument officials on behalf of Michael Boardley of Coon Rapids, Minn.

The suit says Boardley distributed ''gospel tracts'' at the monument on Aug. 9 without incident but was told the next day he needed a permit.

Right Wing Organizations

Alliance Defense Fund

Founded by a group of high-profile Religious Right leaders such as D. James Kennedy and James Dobson, the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) sees itself as a counter to the ACLU. As a legal group, it assists and augments the efforts of other right-wing groups to “keep the door open for the spread of the Gospel.” The ADF has been active on issues including pushing “marriage protection,” exposing the “homosexual agenda” and fighting the supposed “war on Christmas.”

4. I still like the idea
of filling a bunch of life-sized sex dolls with helium and releasing them near a bunch of thumpers. Especially at night with a glow stick inside each one.

5. Bad Idea!
They'd take that as a "sign" and the subsequent "Bible thumpin" would just lead to more of them!

13. Nope!
They'd see them rising and think the rapture was here. They probably would start jumping into the air and then total panic when they realize they aren't going anywhere. I'd sit at a distance with a vidcam and get the whole thing on tape.

20. I saw this exact same thing in an episode of "Six Feet Under."
A truck has some Helium-filled sex dolls in the back being held down by netting. The netting comes loose and the dolls start floating up to the sky. A lady, listening to a Christian talk show on her car radio, see this. She immediately stops her car and runs into the street, hands waving in the air, screaming "Take me, Jesus!" She is then hit by a car.

The actress Beth Grant was brilliant in that scene! :)

These aren't the people who will be raptured, none of them meet the standards. Unfortuntely it looks like we're stuck with them.

8. Erik Prince's daddy bankrolled these people in the first place.
I wonder if we're not bankrolling them now via those big Blackwater contracts.

10. isn't Mt. Rushmore carved out of a mountain sacred to the Lakota Sioux?
If anyone is granted religious rights to the area it should go to them first.

12. You Read My Mind
Those are sacred Lakota lands.

I think we should let Dobson and his buddies have some open wooded land...one preferably full of bears and bobcats.

17. It has been said...
that it should be considered how it makes a native to South Dakota feel having 4 European white guys gazing across their sacred lands for all eternity.

More reason to contribute to the Crazy Horse Monument, a few miles away.

19. I think their idea is that individuals do not need permits.
If it's just one freak exercising speech, then they can speak freely.
If it's a whole group of freaks, then they need a permit.

That's what I gathered from an article in a local paper a couple of days ago.

Also, I think the guy bringing the suit claims that he was turned down for a permit. (But he doesn't have any documentation--he's just saying they wouldn't give him an application. Good luck trying to prove that, buddy!)
