How NOT to stop a popular uprising
I cannot believe that Pervez thought putting Bhutto under house arrest would somehow quell the march against him. Isn't this like basic stuff?

Oh well. It's at least kind of nice to see a people rise up against injustice somewhere. Solidarity, Pakistani's!

2. just think about who is giving him advice.
When both Condi and George call him a great leader, a strong supporter of democracy, this partner in war on terra, is it any surprise that he would get bad advice like this from them?

3. Be careful we aren't all being played
The US and Britain are backing Benazir. The world knows she's a corrupt thug. When the dust settles they'll have remade her into a saint, the guardian of 'democracy'. Note that Mushie allowed her to return.

4. You make some excellent points
Not only was she allowed to return, where'd she get a house so quickly after all those years in exile? I'm sure on some level we're certainly being played. It seems to be the norm these days.

8. After listening to a BBC programme on developments in Pakistan
it hit me that this is all bullshit and before the 2008 elections Bush will hold up Bhutto and Pakistani 'democracy' as one of his successes. Meanwhile the Brits will 'appoint' one of their Sandhurst puppets to replace another (Mushie). In reality the army will still be in charge. No doubt the General will be a good friend of Bhutto's (from her England days) but a better friend to the US and Britain. Pardon my complete cynicism. It's been that way in Pakistan for decades and now that their friends have given them the nukes, they will be ensuring that they're only available to attack the Shiites in Iran.

Never forget who faciliated the Taliban in the first place.

5. Parvez and Benazir should both be careful they're not being played.

Probably the most dangerous career path is to be installed in power by Langley and Friends. Remember these guys?
