Doctors Without Borders: MALNUTRITION: Saving Lives One Child At A Time

Half of all children that die each year are malnourished and under the age of five. That is a staggering and heartbreaking statistic, because it is preventable. Preventable by humans... and yet each year we see children die from malnutrition, starvation, and diseases from lack of water or water that is undrinkable. For me, apart from preserving the environment, feeding hungry children is something I see as a moral obligation of our species. Who with a conscience could bear to see children who have barely had a chance to start their lives lose them? That is why I am posting this here, because Nobel Peace Prize recipients Doctors Without Borders (Medicins Sans Frontieres) is the most reputable organization that truly supports those around the world who need sustinence most... and they are making a great difference in cutting the mortality rate regarding malnutrition in children in places like Niger, Africa where poverty, political upheaval, war, and oher disasters strike. In this presentation you will read how and how hopeful their work is, and I do hope you take it upon yourself to consider helping them in their endeavors. It is hard enough to see people die in natural disasters that are out of our control. However, it is morally unconscienable to think that we have all we need to feed all in our world, and yet we choose not to.

1. I signed the papers last week
that will transfer my inheritance upon my death to Doctors Without Borders.

If my own health had held up, I'd be working for them, too.

3. After seeing the Plumpy Nut show on 60 Minutes
I felt compelled to donate. Just $1 a day can save a child's life.

5. Ah! You beat me to it regarding the Plumpynut segment.
I hope everyone will take the time to watch it - I've asked everyone I know to please watch it (only 11 minutes long). I also did some googling about the product - amazingly simple and effective. Think about how many children could be saved with just a small portion of the money spent on the illegal and immoral occupation of Iraq.

4. Did you see the 60 Minutes segment on Oct. 21st about "Plumpynut"?
Anderson Cooper did a segment on "Plumpynut" - the miraculous product made from nuts and vitamins that is being given to the mothers of malnourished children, mostly in Africa. The low-cost product does not need added water or refrigeration, and has the ability to bring nearly starved children back to health in a relatively short time. They interviewed one of the wonderful doctors from DWBs - millions of children could be saved from starvation with this simple product. Please watch the video of the segment - it's on the 60 Minutes website. Some of the scenes are heartbreaking, some are heartwarming. I will definitely be contributing to DWBs!!!

7. And another issue that falls to the wayside
You would think something that saves the lives of children would get more notice. Oh well, guess it's a slow day.

9. I donate to DWB on a regular basis
They do excellent work with also providing health care to these poor third world countries--This is very important especially in Africa where diseases like malaria and TB are just as devastating as malnutrition....
