URGENT ACTION: CALL, FAX, EMAIL HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER STENY HOYER TO SUPPORT IMPEACHMENT.

THIS SUPPORT ACTION FOR THE KUCINICH RESOLUTION CURRENTLY UNDER CONSIDERATION IN THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE IS DIRECTED AT KEY PARTY LEADERS BLOCKING IMPEACHMENT. OUR DEMAND IS TO OPEN HEARINGS IMMEDIATELY. (The letter is a collaborative effort by two Los Angeles area groups, Valley Impeach and Valley Dems United, and is the third in a series of urgent actions by Valley Impeach targeting these leaders.)

We encourage all impeachment, antiwar, progressive organizations around the country to join in this action. Spread the word. We need to flood party leader Steny Hoyer's office with thousands of calls, faxes, and emails.

Dear Congressman Hoyer,

As a Democrat, I write to you, our Party's House Majority Leader, because of the considerable influence you have on this Congress. I am dismayed by your current refusal to investigate and confront, via Impeachment, the violators of our Constitution.

With the introduction of articles of impeachment by Congressman Kucinich on Tuesday, November 6, 2007, you are presented with an historic opportunity to act on your oath to defend the Constitution. I demand you seize this opportunity.

Support the resolution calling for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney that is now awaiting action in the Judiciary Committee. Heed the call from a Democratic member of the committee, Congressman Robert Wexler of Florida:

"The American people are served well with a legitimate and thorough impeachment inquiry. I will urge the Judiciary Committee to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months. Only through hearings can we begin to correct the abuses of Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration; and, if it is determined in these hearings that Vice President Cheney has committed High Crimes and Misdemeanors, he should be impeached and removed from office. It is time for Congress to expose the multitude of misdeeds of the Administration, and I am hopeful that the Judiciary Committee will expeditiously begin an investigation of this matter."

Don't Betray Your Constituents! Call The Republicans Bluff! Failure to do so will only expose more weakness and lack of backbone on the part of the Democratic Party leadership.

The people are not afraid of the consequences of impeachment of this Vice President; the polls show they are firmly behind his removal. Your fear that hearings will backfire in an election year is losing credibility and support. Open hearings and the party will earn the respect it presently lacks (note the low poll numbers) and enjoy an upswing in popularity across the board.

Exposure of the Vice President's many misdeeds will enlighten others to the damage that is being done in our name, and to our Constitution, creating a groundswell that may very well lead to enough votes in the Senate to impeach. By opening hearings in the House you begin that process, moving our nation out from under the cloud of this administration,

Should you stop Kucinich's resolution in committee, you will fail your own oath of office. "To defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic." With such precedent, you will allow this current administration - and any future White House - to commit additional high crimes and misdemeanors without consequence. Do you really want the Democratic Party to be a co-conspirator in the continued dismantling of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?

The remedy to the abuses of the Bush administration is in the Constitution. The Congress has the power to impeach the Vice President, and the President - Use It! Failure to act is irresponsible and unacceptable.

got an answering machine but said he should support H Res 733 (formerly H Res 333) and that if he thinks impeachment is below this congress he should resign, as impeachment is the constitutional remedy for the criminality of the Bush/Cheney administration.

hate having to answer the phones! And keep it up 'til they actually hold hearings! I called Rep. Conyers the other day and said "I'd like to ask Rep. Conyers to support..." and the staff member finished "H Res 333." I think that says things are going in the right direction!
