I don't want hope, I want action
We have heard it from far too many politicians. Their campaign is a campaign of hope, they are bringing a great sense of optimism to the American people. We have heard so much about hope from many different politicians, both Republicans and Democrats. It seems those candidates are essentially saying to us "vote for me and HOPE nothing goes wrong." "Be optimistic that my plan won't put this country even further into the shitter."

I don't want hope, I don't want optimism, I want action.

I don't want a campaign that tells me to hope they will be able to end the occupation of Iraq, I want a campaign that tells me they will end the war in Iraq.

I don't want a candidate that wants me to hope their corporate sponsored health care plan will insure more people, I want a candidate who tells me they will make sure everyone has health care period.

I don't want a candidate who wants me to hope they will undo the damage Bush has done to our Constitution, I want a candidate who tells me the power of the executive has gone way too far and promises to restore the Constitution.

I don't want a candidate that wants me to hope that they will hold people in power accountable despite the fact that they have not seriously held the Bush regime accountable, I want a candidate that will hold the criminals to the law no matter how powerful they are.

I have had enough of campaign slogans about hope and optimism, it is way past time for hope it is time to get something done for this nation. I don't want to have to hope my candidate is not going to sell themselves out to corporate America, I don't want to hope my candidate is not going to be as militaristic as those who preceded them, I don't want to have to hope that my candidate won't let the environment die, I don't want to have to hope that my candidate won't continue a system that makes the rich richer while screwing the rest of us.

I am sick of politicians running on a platform made up of campaign slogans about hope, I want a candidate who doesn't have to tell us they are going to give us hope because we can see them taking action with our own eyes.

So to all the candidates out there, I don't care how optimistic you tell us you are. I care about the actions you will take so that I one day may be able to feel optimistic, but cheesy campaign slogans without substance or action are never going to give me hope.

1. I suppose there is something to that. JFK was elected on hope, LBJ delivered.
This shows how rare meaningful action can be. bush's illegitimate presidency accomplished something. His greatest accomplishment was that he made Americans feel like burn victims.

Part of hope is the idea that "we have nothing to fear but fear itself." This country is in a deep malaise and our future is a black hole. They say we're free, but we're breathing that freedom through a tiny straw that's being squeezed by thousands of dirty bankers, politicians, con-men, and crooked businesses.

Give me action, but a little hope to tide me over until things get better. In fact, the chances things will get better are slim to none. And slim just moved to Canada.

2. We have to be willing to look
Look and see what the candidates have actually done, and then decide which one will fulfill their promises.

3. Action is insufficient. I want results.
And whipping a constitution out of your pocket or half-heartedly pitching a doomed proposal to impeach the vice president doesn't yield any more results than vague flowerly rhetoric about hope.

One the best qualities of FDR was that he didn't just pledge a commitment to a progressive agenda, he also had the skill at getting others to work with him and get his plans realized. Wish we had somebody like him around these days.
