the makes-you-vomit flashlight coming to Calif.

http://newssophisticate.blogspot.com/2007/11/californians-beware-led-incapacitators.html

Californians beware! LED Incapacitators are coming to a police force near you. Funded by the Department of Homeland Security and produced by Intelligent Optical Systems, Inc., the wicked powerful vomit making flashlight is considered a non violent 'option' by it's makers.

-snip-

By simultaneously overwhelming the subject both physiologically (temporarily blinding him) and psychophysically (disorienting him). A built-in rangefinder measures the distance to the nearest pair of eyeballs. Then, a “governor” sets the output and pulse train (a series of pulses and rests) to a level, frequency, and duration that are effective, but safe. The colors and pulses continuously change, leaving no time for the brain or eyes to adapt. After a few minutes, the effects wear off.

Bob Lieberman and Vladimir Rubtsov, the LED I inventors, say it a little more bluntly

“There’s one wavelength that gets everybody,” says Lieberman. “Vlad calls it the evil color.”

In fact, they believe their device will work well on the Southern border,

“There are often confrontations at border crossings with suspected illegal aliens or drug runners,” Lieberman says. “You don’t want to hurt or kill them, just take them into custody. With this,” he smiles, “they don’t need to know English to comply.”
-snip-
---------------------------------

Bob and Vladimir are sadists

but then again, sadism is the neo con way

how did Calif. get so lucky?

. . . sunglasses? How much money is being spent on this?
(Excuse me sir, please remove your sunglasses so I can make you vomit.)

And this:

...and for all those crowds of protesters....don't worry, DHS and IOS have a project in the works for you too,

"Output and size can easily be scaled up to fit the need; immobilizing a mob, for instance, might call for a wide-angle “bazooka” version."

(please wear your scopalamine patch or take dramamine before coming to protests)

8. Great line!
"Excuse me sir, please remove your sunglasses so I can make you vomit"

Ah, but do we know if shades will work against this?

9. It's just light . . .

. . . so shades should work. And will this thing work in the daytime's bright sun? Creeps me out this idea.

But it would be even more effective if it somehow projected a flashing, grinning image of * on the back of your retina. Now that would be nauseating!

11. "The colors and pulses continuously change, leaving no time for the brain or eyes to adapt."
Admittedly, I've only glanced at the article, but it sounds like you'd have to block all visible wavelengths, or at least the ones that "get you". That would mean blinding yourself either completely, or to certain colors.

They'd have to be pretty fancy glasses :).

10. Flashlights don't make people vomit. People make people vomit.
You can take my flashlight when you pry it from my cold, vomit-soaked hands.
