Yeay!

I've had one for more than 30 years, but I was concerned when I sent it in because it had expired the week before and if I had any emergency need to travel out of the country, I wouldn't have been able to. Nonetheless, I wasn't anticipating any need to travel when I sent it in and thought I might get the new passport sometime in December, if I was lucky.

Today it arrived! I mailed the application in on October 26th. two weeks and 2 days ago.

Wow! I'm impressed!

I know that it was a renewal which is more straightforward than a new application, but still.

1. Probably because you're a member of Democratic Underground
and with the NSA's cooperation, anyone posting on DU that wants to leave the country gets VIP service.

But just wait till you try to get back in....

2. I got back in
And they were even nice to me.

Hmm...There's something seriously wrong when US customs officials are nice to returning Americans, isn't there?

4. If they're nice, it means you're under surveillance....
they wouldn't want to be seen being rude on video

5. Oh goody!
Then inserting "fuck you, NSA" into my phone conversations and emails hasn't been for naught.

They just go after rabblerousers and organizers. Don't worry, your safe.

6. We have to get passports for travel next August, Sweden I think. Wonder how long this will take?
My last passport is now 25 years old, used once. My son wants to do study abroad in Sweden and I want to get him settled at the school. So one new one and I hope I can find my old one.

9. I don't think you're quite sure how an RFID chip works.
Nobody can locate you at all times. Only when the chip is scanned by a reader. These things normally need to be a few feet away to read the passive chip. It's not like they can track you from orbit or anything.
