1. What about an unkick feature?
A way to make a thread sink to the bottom :)

6. There is "something" about the dynamic of a post reaching 5 recs &greatest status
As long as the "un-recs" did not subtract from the recommendations...

I have a convention that I try not to post on threads by people I don't like. With self control I can even avoid clicking on them.

That puppy upthread is cute.

8. As long as more people agreed than disagreed it would appear on the Front Page
Only the Recommend Count would be lower. Instead of 200-recommend screeds, we'd have 20-recommend screeds.

10. EXACTLY!!!!!!!
And there are determined trolls who already coordinate. They would suppress certain topics. It would be horrible.

5. There is an "unrecommend" feature...
If you don't click on "recommend" you are taking advantage of it. :)

7. No. Unrecommend would offset a recommend.

12. Then don't call it unrecommend. How about "condemn?"

9. A ratings system was attempted, but all it did was expose the nasty underbelly of DU
Sad, really.

11. How about breaking the Greatest Page into two columns?
Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 11:50 AM by Boojatta
On the left: Most Support in Excess of Controversy

On the right: Most Controversial Threads

After voting to recommend a thread, one would have the option of voting to increase its "controversy" rating. In addition, deleted posts and deleted subthreads would increase the "controversy" rating.

Advantage: Mods could wait for a thread to get a high controversy rating rather than taking pre-emptive action to lock what is merely suspected of being controversial.

13. This would put an end to the game the CollapseTards like to play...
... which is to put one of their crazy theories in General Discussion, and then shout to their friends to keep recommending it before it gets dumped into the Konspiracy Korner dungeon.
