My 13 year old is watching V for Vendetta again

She watched it for the first time last week....

And, I heard her in the room quoting...remember, remember, the fifth of November.

Since she saw it, she has been asking me all about what is going on with our government since she
knows how closely I follow this stuff. She has been to protests, before. But, this movie gave her
a grander sense of what people fight for....

It is so CUTE. My lil' one is an aspiring activist. I am so proud!

1. She has a great role model!
 My husband loved that movie, and he's not into politics all that much. Good flick!

3. Every bit of subversion helps
From "The Emperor Has no Clothes" taught to them while they're in diapers to "The Six Blind Men and the Elephant" taught to them in grammar school to "V for Vendetta" in middle school, it all adds up.

Now try to find a copy of "The Hidden Persuaders" for her to read. It's dated, but it's still a great first lesson in deconstructing propaganda.

You'll have an intellectual and subversive in the house in no time!

5. I'm just now listening to Catherine Austin Fitts saying that for all the time we spend
in school, we do not have an accurate map of the way our world (including our very own government) works, and that's unnerving.

4. the tower of London has a great Guy Fawkes section, when we were there
the movie was just coming out and one of the buildings across from Parliament was draped in a massive "V for Vendetta" ad.

6. My daughter and nephew celebrated Guy Fawkes day together.
They were going to make paper mache masks, but unfortunately did not have enough time. I remember being so proud of my nephew when at 10 he wanted to go trick-or-treating as John Lennon. I thought my daughter would hate politics after years of hearing me rant about GWB, but she's very involved politically and as an activist for animal rights. It feels good to raise "godless, pinko commie heathens", doesn't it? Actually, the better word for it is raising human beings who know how to use their critical thinking skills, and who care about the world around them.
