Kucinich: Conyers is amenable to Hearings, but is under a lot of pressure
from leadership to not do it.

At a rally this Sunday evening in Asheville, NC, Dennis Kucinich spoke strongly about the direction of this country and his vision of it. I hold him in the highest regard and believe that he believes in what he says. He speaks truth with clarity and understands the challenges we face today and will face in the coming years.

His supporters, myself included, were full of energy and he made it clear he appreciated the enthusiasm. He spoke for about half an hour and took a few questions. The last question was, "Are we going to get Impeachment Hearings?"

He said he talked to Conyers and that he is amenable to Hearings, but is under considerable pressure from Democratic Leadership not to move on it. He asked us to help and do all we can to let our Representatives know it is of up most importance.

Call, e-mail, send letters and let Us be heard!

10. I am guessing around 250-300
It was put together with rather short notice, I posted that he'd be here in the NC forum. Sorry you couldn't make it.

It was in Malaprop's bookstore--packed house, with the crowd spilling out onto the sidewalk.

30. Yes, I would say your estimate is about right. They said there
were around 100 people outside and inside there were around 200. It was really very inspiring to hear him. Now we must keep pressuring our congress critters to hold hearings.

12. He was in his element, here in Asheville.
He read from his pocket Constitution, and didn't miss a beat. One of the most moving parts of his speech was when he told us what he learned something from the Dalai Lama:

He learned that is good to ask for help when needed. He said, "I can't do this alone, and I ask for your help. Whatever your strength is, however you can best contribute, I ask for your help."

It was moving. He is a truly inspiring person, full of courage, warmth and fire in his belly.

14. Good on DK
'off the table' means NOT ON THE JOB. The evidence for impeachment is vast and multi-leveled, but would be orders of magnitude greater if not for the contempt of Congressional subpoenas, the 'lost' e-mails, and general stonewalling (itself an impeachable offense) If we are to avoid an avalanche of Presidential pardons that would derail future investigations and accountability, IMPEACH NOW, or forever be complicit with war-crimes for profiteers and subverting the Constitution.

18. Kucinich said he is still collecting them.
He said the emails he collects will go to the sender's Representative, Conyers, Pelosi, and he will deliver the stack himself(I am guessing to Conyers?) so that they go to the leadership from four directions. He wants more, keep them coming!!!

23. my letter to jan schakowsky- co-sponsor of hr 333
and deputy whip-
dear jan, although i know that "politics ain't beanbag" i know that you are very concerned with the state of our country and our planet. i write to ask you to do whatever you can to make sure that hr 333 succeeds. i know that you are a co-sponsor, and i am grateful for that. but i hear that john conyers is under a great deal of pressure to stall this. he is a good man, and wants to do the right thing. he has promised to do so many times since this nightmare began. i ask you to stand by him, and do what you can to support him. i stand with him, as does the vast majority of the 9th district. i know it is hard, perhaps even dangerous in these times to stand up. but many now stand with you, and the future is in our hands. there is nothing before our congress that is more important than putting an end to this insanity. hold fast. stay strong. you are not alone.
yours

26. Can someone please tell us
What else is going on in Conyers committee that is so important they can't handle impeachment?

What exactly does Pelosi, et al, mean when they say they are "too busy" to begin an impeachment investigation? I'd like some details as to what, exactly, would have to be sacrificed in order to begin impeachment hearings.

We keep hearing they are too busy, that impeachment would "slow things down". I'm willing to accept that argument if they can make a case for it. What exactly do they mean?

44. conyers knows everything..better than us...remember when the dsm meetings were stonewalled?
and our congresspeople were forced to hold meetings in the basement because the republican leadership refused to give them a meeting room?...remember the book he wrote last year.."George Bush versus the US Constitution"?..the current investigations needed to be completed..war profiteering, outing a cia agent, blackwater, and on and on..and waxman has been on it as well..it appears that there is enough evidence to sink a ship but i think that in the course of these investigations, the most sinister evidence has frightened even the most experienced..and they dont trust that 300 million of us are ready for the truth..or would know what to do with it even if it were handed to us..

We are grown-ups and the Country knows that bushco. is corrupt, misleading and criminal. This is supposed to be Our government, and We have a right to know what has been done in Our name. We can handle it.

Hell, just tell us enough to blow the bastards out of office. If they "have the goods" and the goods are very bad (which i think they are) The public will be behind them 100%.

Hey, Mr. Conyers, what are you waiting for?

67. Well, at least some info on this --- not the WHY of it . . . but some info ---
Obviously, it's leaders in Dem party --- DLC doesn't want impeachment ---

Pelosi came out with that statement like out of a cannon ---
like the most important thing she had to say ---
like maybe there were already threats being fired at them if they did it ---
maybe from GOP?

And we could see how anxious Hoyer was to kill it the other day ---

I'm trying to call on it as often as possible --- every other day --- and different people

We really need direct e-mail --- it's nonsense going in and out of the websites to leave msgs.

73. Get a "Discharge Petition"
the GOP wanted it voted on anyways....so have Dennis start this petition and get it out of committee......
this is his leverage.......if not ..why not?Discharge petition

A discharge petition is a means of bringing a bill out of committee and to the floor for consideration without a report from a Committee and usually without cooperation of the leadership.

Discharge petitions are most often associated with the U.S. House of Representatives, though many state legislatures have similar procedures. They are used when the chair of a committee refuses to place a bill or resolution on the Committee's agenda; by never reporting a bill, the matter will never leave the committee and the full House will not be able to consider it.

A successful petition "discharges" the committee from further consideration of a bill or resolution and brings it directly to the floor. The discharge petition, and the threat of one, gives more power to individual members of the House and usurps a small amount of power from the leadership and committee chairs.

The modern discharge petition requires the signature of an absolute majority of House members (218 members).

76. To The Fucking Streets.
What in the HELL does it take?

Many of us have called, sent letters, emailed.

But STILL the "leadership" puts pressure -- PUTS PRESSURE!! -- NOT to move on impeachment.

I beginning to think it's time to take to the streets.

A massive march on Washington. A massive march in the "leadership's" home towns -- San Francisco and COllege Park, Md.

I am just SO frustrated and angry.

I feel a tiny bit better now.

Will call my Congressman again tomorrow and make more calls to other Dems. Will get spouse to do same.

Why can't the Congress do the job they were meant to do?! Why is it so difficult for them to defend the Constitution of the United States? What are they AFRAID OF???!!!!
