Wiping sweat during a news conference

Pakistani helicopter gunships pounded militant positions in a troubled north-western valley yesterday for the first time since a state of emergency was declared, officials said. Two militants were wounded when the helicopters fired on rebel bunkers in the Swat Valley, where followers of a pro-Taliban cleric are leading a campaign for Islamic Sharia law, a hospital and a rebel spokesman said.

Opposition leaders are calling Mush's election plans meaningless if Martial Law stands. Look at the pics to see how well he feels about it all.

3. He took off his uniform
How much do you vultures want from George's bestest friend? You're never satisfied!

Curious how all the news programs I saw over the weekend were trumpeting Musharraf's promise to hold elections as proof positive that all would soon be well in Pakistan. As if there's any expectation that the elections would be free and fair. As if we hadn't watched election after election in Iraq, and all those purple fingers, and then watched them go back to shooting at each other the very next day.

4. Bhutto is to call for a boycott of elections if still under Martial Law.

5. And Musharraf has said that's exactly what will happen
So all the radio and television stations will be off the air. Apparently gatherings that don't support Musharraf will be banned. The Today Show actually noticed that those don't look like prime ingredients for making sure that elections are free and fair. But I'm sure that George W. will come out and explain it all for us, and the media toadies will nod sagely and deny the evidence of their own lying eyes.
