A Crude Awakening - you must see this film!

Yesterday we watched "A Crude Awakening." If you have heard of the concept of "peak oil" but never fully understood what it meant or the implications of it, you must see this film (available on DVD). It is stark, and frankly, depressing. But you need to understand that when we run out of oil, and we WILL run out of oil, it's over. The age of "hydrocarbon man" is ending, and it's long past time for us to figure out what happens next.

What are the alternatives? Nuclear? We'd have to build 10,000 full-capacity nuclear energy plants to replace the energy from oil. Ten thousand. And we'd run out of uranium in just a few years.

Biomass? Hardly a drop in the bucket, energy-wise, and then what are we supposed to EAT?

Wind? Solar? Still just a drop in the bucket.

Hydrogen? Seems to be the best solution, but the technology is lacking (at this point).

Scientists had better get busy. Meanwhile, see this film.
