Medco warns of vanishing nest eggs
http://money.cnn.com/2007/11/13/pf/retirement/bc.apfn.medco.survey.ap/index.htm?postversion=2007111308

The survey revealed an overall lack of awareness and planning for drug expenses by retirees, which is putting their savings at risk.

A lot of those medicines say to take w/food. It's all some can do to plan a grocery list that provides a normal healthy diet, let alone the specialty diets. How does one adequately plan for the unbearable costs of most chronic and/or terminal illnesses?

1. Do you remember the tv ad during the '04 elections that showed
an elderly man sitting at the kitchen table and the ad was stating that this man had a decision to make: either buy food so that he can continue to live or buy his meds so that he can continue to live. That commercial made me cry.

I don't have an answer for you except that maybe, just maybe someday we'll get someone in the WH who actually gives a shit about the people who pay his/her salary.

2. What's disgusting is the prices are arbitrary
It's not like the prices of these meds are "cost-plus". Pharma's have the ability to decide who to charge what, and you can bet that their strategy is to take every U.S. retirees for all they are worth.

Of course the same drugs are cheaper overseas because other governments would never stand for it.
