Poll question: What do you think of medical marijuana?
Please read the article below and then vote in the poll:

Medical Marijuana Misinformation: Required Reprise

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - I must belatedly congratulate previous witch-hunter Harry Anslinger and the Hearst Newspapers for thoroughly demonizing cannabis/marijuana which has been used safely as medicine for at least 5,000 years.

They coined the term "Reefer Madness" and apparently the side effects of an overdose of this medicine has stuck in the brains of many people including DEA brainwashed robots and many physicians (marijuana is bad because patients can grow their own but we doctors would prefer they visit our office and use really dangerous drugs like Oxycontin, a real "killer")

<snip>
Other doctors have found that cannabis is effective for psychiatric disorders, especially war veterans with PTSD. This person also up braided me for signing for patients with histories of drug addiction. (they were using it as medicine.) She quoted Kathleen Haley, the Executive Director of the Medical Board, saying that I, "recommended cannabis for conditions that could not benefit from the drug." If the patient said it works, it must work. Miss Haley is not a medical doctor, but a doctor of jurisprudence, a lawyer, she should not be practicing medicine.

1. Marijuana is no more harmful than beer.
It should be legalized and regulated as such.

Medical Marijuana most certainly should be allowed. As Bill Maher said, if the Big Pharmaceutical companies are not pushing it, it is illegal for that reason.

2. I don't have to read the article -- I'm 100% for medical marijuana. I think it's

despicable that a substance that can help so many in so many ways is being withheld because of some fucked up laws and beliefs. I feel very strongly about this.

EDIT: After I voted I saw option 1 about not restricting medical marijuana. If that would be an achievable first step before all laws on pot were changed, that would be my preference.

4. Medical THC has already been legal for twenty some years.
So I see no reason why marijuana shouldn't be.

5. I've heard that the medical THC just doesn't work as well as marijuana. I've
also heard the same thing about when heroin gets refined down to morphine - some ingredient is lost or altered or something.

6. Heroin and morphine are two different compounds.
Heroin is made from morphine, not the other way around.

Heroin is considerably better than morphine, and therein lies the problem.

7. The laws on marijuana also need to be changed; but ...
the question was about medical marijuana, so I 'voted' that medical use should not be limited.

9. Remembering how Asscroft went after doctors prescribing medical marijuana
using existing laws on the substance in general, I decided to include the choices bout those laws as well. IMHO, to actualize medical marijuana as accepted practice, all the laws concerning this substance must be changed.

12. Medicinal marijuana is a stepping stone to complete decriminilization....
and I'm all for it. The money that has been spent investigating, arresting, prosecuting and imprisoning people who's only offense was growing, selling or simply possessing a fucking plant over the last 40 years just boggles my mind! Of course whatever the cost it pales in comparison to the subsidies paid to tobacco farmers and the distilling industry.

I need to take a hit and go listen to some Bill Hicks now...

13. It's an excuse for addiction
My former partner Ahknaten hurt his back moving a TV set. Rather than taking the prescribed muscle relaxants and taking a few days off, he "treated" it with "medical grade marijuana" he got from some guy in a van we'd have to meet in the middle of the night behind a mall. Pretty soon he was smoking and baking it into cookies and using it pretty much constantly. This, of course, did absolutely nothing for the original problem, so his back problems continued to worsen and he was able to talk the doctor into prescribing oxy, morphine and eventually gaby-something-or-other, a nerve deadener. He'd spend his days sitting on the couch, crouched forward with his face in his lap, drooling.

15. That's funny.
Good stuff. I would have included something about where he massacred a bus full of nuns, or ate a baby because he thought it was a cheeseburger, but maybe that'd be over the top.
