Chris Dodd on John Edwards: "I am surprised at just how angry John has become."
Edited on Tue Nov-13-07 06:47 PM by journalist3072
Bonus Quote of the Day
"I am surprised at just how angry John has become. This is not the same John Edwards I once knew."

-- Sen. Chris Dodd after John Edwards refused to confirm he would support Hillary Clinton should she be the party’s nominee.

Source: http://politicalwire.com/archives/2007/11/13/bonus_quote_of_the_day.html

Dodd hit the nail on the head. I've been saying this about Edwards for some time now. He's more mean-spirited than I remember him being from the 2004 campaign (i.e. his comment about not liking Sen. Clinton's clothes at one of the debates).

38. I must be a complex one..cause
I am a whole lot angrier at what's happening to our country since 2000 but my spirit has actually become kinder. I can seperate my anger at the bushites/enablers but I've been working on my spirit for more acceptance of this life we all have..just don't ask me to enable the fascists-bushits.

9. Edwards is cracking up
With his wife battling cancer and his campaign in the toilet I think the pressure has gotten to Edwards and he is buckling under the strain. Maybe he should get some help and advice on whether he should continue or withdraw early.

I'm afraid Edwards will have an episode in public and it would be very embarrassing for him.

31. And the Howard Deaning of John Edwards begins
Every time a democrat speaks the truth with passion, it becomes an anger management issue.

Edwards isn't the only angry one Senator Dodd. We've been waiting seven years for change and it's started to become obvious we are getting to choose between four more years of the same or four more years of a watered down version of the same. Maybe if you became a little angrier about the way things are heading in this country Senator Dodd, you might be polling higher than 2%.

I don't know about you Senator Dodd, but I just got laid off and then watched the hills around my city burn due to an enormous lack of man power to fight the fires. I see that fires are only going to become a bigger and bigger issue due to climate change. I see that firefighting budgets are only getting smaller as property values go down and the amount of taxes paid goes down. I only see one man who speaks to any of the problems I've experienced or witnessed and that man is John Edwards. Firefighters may support you Senator Dodd, but this one doesn't.

44. Dodd -- These senators, Obama and Clinton and Biden included just don't seem to get it, do they.
They do not understand how scared we normal, middle-of-the road Americans are. Edwards sees the economic and social injustice that is going on in the U.S. today. And it is that injustice that is making him angry and causing me to support Edwards. I am not by nature a crazy, angry person. If you saw me, you would not think that I am as angry as I am about the political mess we are in.

I am angry about the economic situation. And here is why. Because of my work, I sometimes see the most private details of ordinary Americans' finances. DUers, you have to see it to believe how terrifying the economic situation is. People owe and owe and owe. Most owe more than they have saved. Those few who have "assets" mostly have houses and stock market investments (mostly retirement funds). As we know, those are high risk investments. If you have owned your house for a long time, the likely loss you will suffer in the next recession is not that great. But, that loss will devastate those who have recently bought homes in the bull market. A lucky minority have the promise of a pension -- someday, and at the whim of the employer. Many, many people, however, live paycheck to paycheck. Very few are getting raises high enough to keep up with the rising costs of their everyday necessary expenses like healthcare, transportation and gas. Far too many pay high rents or mortgage payments. And many, many Americans drive huge cars and take vacations they can't afford. And don't forget the cost of college and graduate school. We are living beyond our means.

And we are losing our rights. It strikes me as especially odd since Dodd has shown that he understands the threat to our freedom, to our rights, to our Constitutional government that the Bush administration poses. After all, it is Dodd who is talking about the abuses of warrantless surveillance and the violations of FISA. Knowing what he knows, he should be a lot angrier.

I'm sure that Senators Obama and Clinton and Biden are asking the same question Biden is asking. But it is they who are out of touch with the American people. Sometimes I wonder if they put tranquilizers in the water the senators drink. (Just kidding.) It seems like the senators now serving in Congress just don't understand that Edwards is expressing our anger and our frustration. I'd like to see Dodd get a lot angrier about what is going on.

47. HERE'S SOME NEWS FOR YOU --AMERICA IS ANGRY!!!!!
Americans everywhere are ANGRY. They are fed up. They are tired of hearing the old lines by the long time politicians, how they will eventually fix things(but not right now).

Look at the poll numbers regarding approval of Congress --Lower than Bush's numbers.

IF you are not angry about the dismantling of our Constitution, loss of American lives, ringing up a $1.5 TRILLION tab for a war that was put on credit, and vetoing medical insurance for kids and heating assistance for the poor.

These candidates taking John Edwards to task for being angry don't have a clue. But they will get one --and soon.

BTW Last CBS Poll in IOWA shows a statistical dead heat.
