This is just so :wtf::

"That's a big no. The president believes ... that it should be the goal of policymakers to protect the American way of life. The American way of life is a blessed one."

- Ari Fleischer, White House Press Secretary responding in May 2001 to whether Bush would ask Americans to curb their first-in-the-world energy consumption.

5. Last week my wife and I were discussing that pagan
who won the lottery...he rushed out and bought himself a McMansion and is well on his way to provingg that a high number of those who win end up letting it ruin their lives. We shared a laugh. Who the fuck needs a McMansion? I would probably sell the house we're in now and buy an energy efficient modest three-bedroom home on the Oregon Coast (where she's always wanted to live) and a few extra conveniences and settle in to a shared life of writing, editing, and reviewing with no one the wiser. I'd pay for my kids college education (and my niece's) and be quite content living much the same way I am now.

Of course, one of her pagan friends at work commented recently that she makes enough money that she should be a "puppie" (an upwardly mobile pagan) yet chooses not to be. We are mostly content with what we have and wouldn't change our lifestyle much even if we DID suddenly get millions of dollars.

:shrug:

7. Why single him for blame - there are MANY who believe exactly that, in both parties
Maybe they don't say as much - but that is one of the reasons some Democrats play junior imperialists in support the continuing occupation of Iraq.

9. As Cheney said just after 9/11..
Regarding the goals of "terrorists" and the "appropriate" American response: "The American way of life is non-negotiable."

Now that's leadership.
