I am now officially a capitalist pig!
Next I'll be exploiting labor and climb into the ruling class.

After months of searching, and a week of negotiating, my partner and I are now the owners of a carryout and delivery pizzaria and Italian restaurant. Settled the deal this morning.

We're gonna pump out the best cheap food in the Tampa Bay area.

Now, I gotta learn how to cook Italian food.

:toast: :bounce: :toast:  :toast:

Now I've got to tell Dennis Kucinich to bring Elizabeth by for a veggie pizza next time they're in town!

exploit the masses to increase shareholder value! You'll probably support Hillary and the DLC next! I would strongly advise an asbestos suit for here!

vegetarian/vegan in Tampa Bay knows all about your place.

Seriously, if you want, PM me your place. I can at least tell all my Dem/lib friends about it.

8. There are so many places like that in my new neighborhood in Boston I don't know how they all
stay in business. People must eat a lot of pizza here. Then again, it is a student neighborhood so maybe that explains it.

20. Ya live in the North End?
You're right about the student population--there's a college/university in every square mile of the city, on average. More than just one, actually. Look at Wheelock/Simmons/Emmanuel/BU/ for starters, Northeastern/Emerson/MCP/MCA...and how close they are to each other.

And then, there's all those hospitals, with workers who want pizza at ten at night. Children's Hospital, Beth Israel, Leahy Clinic...

27. Yeah
It's pretty ridiculous about the pizza spots though. Like every day some or another of them is cramming a take-out menu into my mailbox. Add together the Chinese restaurant take-out menus, I'm surprised there's any forest left anywhere.

But at least I recycle them :)

12. There is NOTHING wrong with being a business owner or entrepreneurship.
That is your choice. Just as workers also should have a choice to form an association to establish a worker co-op enterprise where the profits of the enterprise are shared. There is nothing saying that private enterprise can't exist next to collective enterprise in the free market.

18. I bet th OP would like for the workers to share the risk he has right now.
How about waiting for him to break even before you start deciding how his profits should be dispersed.

30. Yes, I wasn't questioning what you were doing with your firm but commenting on the bigger picture...
using your example as a sort of jump-off point. Have you read the book by Schweickart titled "Economic Democracy: A Worthy Socialism That Would Really Work"?

In it, he states that entrepreneurs such as yourself are important to this new model of economy, much as it is the same in the current economy. He states that as an entrepreneur, you take the lead in assuming the risks of starting an enterprise and that as a reward, you should be entitled to the profits your project generates with the discretion to do with it what you will within the bounds of the law.

The only twist comes when you can also decide to sell your firm to a public bank. The public bank exists to train and educate workers on what worker co-ops are. It provides capital funds and financial assistance and education to workers who may wish to associate together to establish a new firm that's cooperatively owned. The bank also exists to buy out failed firms or other pre-existing firms that wish to sell-out to the bank to reorganize those firms into worker co-ops as well.

In such a hypothetical economy, you are free to decide to keep your firm for as long as you wish or sell it off to the public bank for a profit, such as when you grow tired of running the firm or wish to retire.

I'm not meaning to point any accusatory finger at you that you're a miserly employer or anything like that. I KNOW how difficult it is to run a small business. The best of luck to you! May you enjoy as many hot pizzas as the future may hold!

15. Congratulations!!! How big is your business? Put a nice caprese on the menu!
Many employees? Any sit down area, or is it all take away or 'delivery?'

Do you do "subs?" Aka Grinders/hoagies? Do you do pasta dishes as well?

Italian food is easy. I lived in Italy for the best part of a decade. The things you have to remember is don't overcook shit, particularly the pasta, keep it simple, use the best/freshest ingredients, and don't be afraid of salt--don't OVERDO, but don't underdo either.

As they say in Bella Italia, AUGURI!!!!!!

23. It has a small sit down area.
We're going to see if the landlord will let us put some tables outside in the common area (it's at one end of a small strip mall).

We have a full hot and cold sub menu, salads, wings, and about a dozen pasta dishes.

The current owner grows a lot of his herbs, on site in season, and we'll do the same thing. We don't want to lose the existing clientèle.

33. Yes, put tables outside as permitted. Good weather can be used to your advantage.
Conversely, make sure there are enough seats inside as well in case of rainy days.
