"Campbell, You Ignorant ..."
... pundit."

The round-up of coverage regarding Campbell's question has been fun to poke through.

On my second listen-through of the Vegas debate, I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I realized that the intonation and cadence was very close to Dan Aykroyd's old Weekend Update appearances with Jane Curtin.

1. I thought Hillary sounded very maternal, and exasperated
....when she spoke to Campbell. It was almost as if she were talking to Chelsea in a highly motherly fashion. I'd like to know what the backstory is with Hillary and Campbell. I know that Campbell made the A-list parties for many years. Perhaps she and Chelsea were acquaintances.

15. It was a JOKE. Good grief. And, as a Salon writer said,
she had classic comedic timing.

2. Campbell Brown's husband is Dan Senor
Repuke extraordinaire and has a leading role in the Romney campaign

and the Dems let CNN stage this debate with people like this asking questions

All the Repukes are in bed together - why in the hell would the Dems appear in a CNN debate where CNN called the shots and only had questions approved by them, and allowed cheering and booing?

Dems, don't do this to yourselves, don't walk into their traps; I find it all too disgusting.

11. No wonder she came out looking so good, they want to beat her.
Repubs vs Dems by taking down Clinton in the national election.

20. They might be miscalculating. Women comprise 54% of the electorate.
And in New York state, HRC did very well in both the blue and the red parts of the state, drawing heavy support from women Independents and a substantial number of female Republicans. Overall, she had 75% of the women's vote in the state, which more than made up for the fact that a slight majority of men voted Republican.

13. I thought so too. But I'm sure you're run into some women DUers
who seem not to have understood her at all. I know I have.

They seem to think that acknowledging the existence of gender discrimination is beneath us -- or at least, beneath them.

8. IMHO, this was the best political theatre to come out of the debates!
HRC's take down of Campbell was delicious. Poor Campbell. I bet she felt like crawling under her desk.

Campbell is SO screwed as a "journalist" if Hillary makes it to the White HOuse!

10. Interesting That CNN Moved Ol' Lou...
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 08:32 PM by CorpGovActivist
... toward the exits (another "journalist" who will not far well after next year, methinks).

At least here, the BBC moved its coverage to match, and extended it from a half to a full hour, and I'd warrant Lou's ratings have plummeted from the twin blow.

14. Delicious! Yes, it was. Definitely the high point of the debate, for me.
And for my sister in another state, and for my mother in Texas (of all places).

18. We were just talking about this last night, actually.
My husband deals with this kind of thing as a manager. I described to him the Campbell/HRC "pregnant pause" and remarked that -- in that pause -- women all over the country had a moment to reflect on their own moments "from time to time" when there have been "impediments" in the workplace.
My husband, ruefully shaking his head, said many men he works with "still don't get it."

My sister's 60 year old husband likes HRC a lot, and he enjoyed the Campbell/HRC exchange.

My mother lives alone, but my dad, when he was alive, considered himself a feminist -- so I imagine he would have enjoyed that, too. Especially since one of his last accomplishments before he died was convincing a female relative to file a complaint with the Equal Opportunity commission -- which resulted in her getting a 50% raise, and all the other women in her department getting substantial raises, too.

19. Thanks for Sharing Those Additional Insights...

... my sister started out making less money than guys in her college class who barely passed the program. Our mom made sure we boys and my sister believed in equal opportunity.

Substantively, I thought Senator Clinton was right.

Stylistically, I thought she over-hammed it.

12. All women knew exactly what Sen. Clinton meant by that comment.
What a stupid question. Of course Campbell Brown must not have had to work for what she has. She does not seem to understand the obvious that most women have "impediments" thrown in the way when they are trying to succeed. Thank you, Senator Clinton, for making Campbell look like the idiot that she is.
